Grrr! 06 DTS, 70K miles with Oil Leak

Something told me I had a problem when the "Low Engine Oil" light came on one day and I had to add a quart of oil.
So now I've noticed small quarter size oil drops on the ground under the front right side of the car.
From what what I've read on this forum, oil leaks are labor intensive repairs on these cars.

I paid less than 10k for the car and honestly couldn't see investing several thousand dollars into repairs.

Are there any suggestions on what I should look for and the best course of action?

This very typical of these cars, pan gaskets and valve cover gaskets. My 06 has 80k and has had leakage for a while. Only remedy is to replace, make sure you go somewhere with a good warranty because 40-60k they will leak again. Common GM issue.

Any idea on labor costs for these repairs?

Thanks for posting Black Dawg. It looks like I might have the same issue. I noticed some smoke coming from the hood, while at a stop light. I pulled over and everything looked normal, so I drove about a mile to my job. When I got to work, I let the car run for like 5 minutes and still no smoke. I guess it's Day 1 of an oil leak issue.

Thanks brucehammond. Looks like no more visits to the Cadillac Service Department. I'll be switching to my uncle's mechanic, that works on his Lexus.

No this is the Buick dealer. I can't / won't go to moore cadillac in Richmond after the way the service department treated me. And this was after I bought this car from them. Unfortunately for Richmond , VA they are the only cadillac dealer in town.

Wow, what a shame. You would think these dealerships would take care of you, so you would want to do business with them in the future. The message they send is "You're only important on the day you purchase the car, but after that you're on your own".

I love the dts. It's awesome but I have learned the only way to own one of these cars affordably is to make sure you get a warranty. I am sure there are great cadillac dealers out there, just not where I live.

That's my line of thinking. Although when I got an extended warranty I had to get a Ford ESP because I bought my DTS from a Ford Dealer. Works out ok, just kind of a PITA because the Chevy/Buick dealers I use hate to deal with non GM Ext Service Plans but they are willing to for me because I told them why I have a Ford ESP. The best is the GMC/Buick dealer about a half hour away, I just call the Ford dealer across from them and tell them I'm bringing it in. They Diagnose, call the Ford dealer with the repair info, Ford dealer runs it in their system, approves the work and pays the Buick dealer directly. I pay my deductible and off I go. Not too bad, better than calling Ford ESP directly for pre-approval and all that jazz.

I completely agree. I absolutely love my DTS but I would not dare own it without a service plan. We just have to accept the fact that those expensive plans are just part of the cost of ownership.

Thanks Sarah but cadillac customer service refused to help me with my $2800 oil leak repair on a car with only 48,000 miles. I did everything including beg someone for some assistance. I have over $5000 in repairs on this DTS in the 18 months that I have owned it.
