Need Help, 6 DTS won't start

5*, wife starts car, drives to Doc, drives to bank, comes out car is dead. Nothing works until you turn the key on. Dash lights on, radio works, heater works, nothing else. Paging thru looking for battery volts, all info is dashes, like VOLTS --.-. Nothing happens when you try to start, lights don't dim, nothing changes.
It's got to be a fuse or link, but where.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

Put the shifter in "N" and try to start it or move the shifter back and forth from PARK to 1st a few times...
It may not be in park real good.

I did try that, but it's not that, the indicator the shows what gear you're in doesn't appear. ECMs not getting any power, no interior lights, nothing on door control panel works.
Car is completely dead until you turn a ignition switch on. Battery has 12.22 volts, at battery, rear seat fuse box and front fuse box.
Darn cold out to check for very long. luckily it's only 4 miles away.

There is a way to REBOOT all of the electronic modules in the entire car.
Sometimes ( lots of times) that will fix random electrical gremlins.

Remove BOTH battery cables... negative cable FIRST...
Touch both cables together for 5 seconds or so, making sure they have good contact with each other.
This will drain all the capacitors in the system.

While you have the cables off... undo the one bolted to the floor.
Take a little piece of sandpaper and sand the paint away from the attachment point.
It will then have a better ground.

Re-attach the battery cables... negative cable LAST...
You will have to do the window EXPRESS UP learn again and you MAY have to do the memory seat settings again.
Sometimes they will forget the seat settings and sometimes they don't.

I think there is something wrong in the electric circuit and it's very difficult for you to do the quick diagnostics especially in this bone chilling weather. Unless you have a heated garage I would recommend to get it towed to your local auto shop & let'm figure out & correct the problem.

I'll give that a try. Surprisingly, the memory seat is the only thing I have found that works with the key off.

Re: Need Help, 6 DTS won't start

Got the car back Wed, luckily the local garage is across the street from the bank parking lot.
They worked on it a couple of times in the parking lot and gave up and pushed it across the street into the garage when it was my turn.
So, $305 for a new BCM, $70 labor, $80 for a programmer guy to program it, taxes, etc. $488 total.
I'm sure the stealership would have doubled that or more.
    Me happy.

I assume the BCM is the Body Control Module. So, where is the BCM located in the DTS?
