    Popping sound when starting up

I am thinking this may be a low voltage sign, i.e. that the battery is failing. When the car is started - sometimes - it pops. Kinda loud. Sounds like its coming from the front. Any ideas? thanks.

Re: Popping sound when starting up

I bought my 07 DTS February 2012 and I had a loud bang sound to occur when starting the car several times. I want to think it's coming from the sound system. To me it sounds like someone shot a gun. I change my battery a couple of months ago because of the age and it has not had happen since but time will tell. I also clean where the ground cable connects to the body like Jim recommends in case there was an arc. I was surprise to find paint all down in the threads making a good ground impossible.

Mine does that every now and then also. I'm pretty sure it comes from the sound system. Not sure whats causing it. My car has a new battery so I doubt its that. Maybe bad grounding somewhere in the audio system?

Did you clean the ground connection where the negative cable connects to the body?

There is a way to REBOOT all of the electronic modules in the entire car.
Sometimes ( lots of times) that will fix random electrical gremlins.

Remove BOTH battery cables... negative cable FIRST...
Touch both cables together for 5 seconds or so, making sure they have good contact with each other.
This will drain all the capacitors in the system.

While you have the cables off... undo the one bolted to the floor.
Take a little piece of sandpaper and sand the paint away from the attachment point.
It will then have a better ground.

Re-attach the battery cables... negative cable LAST...
You will have to do the window EXPRESS UP learn again and you MAY have to do the memory seat settings again.
Sometimes they will forget the seat settings and sometimes they don't.

I did this when I replaced my battery. Haven't heard the loud pop but time will tell. Thanks Jim for your input.
