    2006 DTS Performance

Hello everyone I am looking for a daily driver to use from November to April. The remainder of
the year I will drive my Camaro. That being said I came across two 06 DTS with the Performance package that I am interested in. They both are in the 50k range. They are selling in the range of 12 k.Neither are being sold at Cadillac dealerships so the historical info maybe hard to get.
I am looking for reliability, low operating costs, safety and performance will this car fit the bill?
    Thanks a lot.

Reliability will depend a lot on how routine maintenance was performed.
You can take the VIN to a Cadillac dealer and they can pull the history of all work that was performed by a GM dealer... Of course that tells you nothing of what (if any) work that was done at a NON GM dealer.
As for low operating costs, you are buying an eight year old car that weighs almost two and a half tons.
Driving with a light foot will get you about 15 to 19 MPG around town, depending on your mix of surface streets and freeways.
They are rated as a VERY SAFE car.
You do realize that the Performance Sedan has the Magnetic Suspension.
That can be very expensive to work on if it has problems, compared to a regular suspension.

With all that being said, I have a 2006 Performance Sedan that I bought new... it now has a little over 137,000 miles on it and I am not planning on getting rid of it any time soon.
It has been a pretty trouble free car after the first few months of ownership.

Hello, and congrats on wanting to choose a Cadillac DTS... I have also have a 2006 dts performance white diamond like jim's.. that im the second owner of. I bought it at a non gm dealer too! It did come with car fax but as you know those can be vague. .. got it with about 110k, and about two weeks of ownership I had to replace the water pump... that i did all the work on... which I can expect with a 7year old car....the frontwheel hub bearings are in need of replacement right now, and a O2 sensor that's comes on every so often needs to be good weather to work on (no garage)... with that said its been a great car really good in the snow/ice and awesome on long trips! If your willing to work on it your self its cheap and self full filing. ... good luck and please drive one so you can see what these cats are capable of......

I also have a 2006 Performance Sedan. Love the car, but have had to put a little money into it. I bought it for $10K, with 95,000 miles. A president of a company owned it and was retiring. I did by a warranty package with it...and that has helped. Things like heated/cooled seats, electric windows and just recently the throttle body has been worked or replaced. The guy liked to rub up against curbs and the wheels would not hold air, so got some new wheels recently from Summit Racing. Rides really nice. Hauls ass. If you like big, highway cruiser, you'll love it.

I'm sorry but I have never heard of anyone wanting to have as Classic a car as the DTS to have them as a DD to get through winter...

    What an insult!

    its just pure economics

These cars have pretty low resale...so one over 5 years old can be bought pretty cheaply

In fact..this is probably the least expensive used car out there with its feature set

The FWD drive and all the weight over the front makes it an excellent winter driver...though this same thing makes it a relatively poor handler because of the uneven weight distribution front to rear

I owe an 05 STS V8 AWD drive now...and used to own an 02 STS
The 02 STS was a very similar car to the DTS....and all that weight over the front wheels make it handle winter weather like a champ
