    Trumpet Horns

Our DTS is missing one item that has been a Cadillac tradition, trumpet horns. I assume they are gone due to some bullshit regulations. Even my Mercedes has a new horn, similar in tone to every other car instead of the unique sound the earlier models had. Hate to mess with the complex wiring of the DTS, but does anyone have experience in transplanting these horns on a late model DTS? Thanks!

    Re: Trumpet Horns

If I remember right... the 4 note trumpet horn was A,C, D F....
The note of each horn was stamped on it.
If I was going to do it, I would look for some older horns in a wrecking yard.

    Re: Trumpet Horns

    That is correct...A,C,D,F.

...and if I remember correctly, somewhere... perhaps it was on my Roadmaster (which had trumpet horns)... there was a "splitter" which plugged into the green horn wire connector and split into 2 wires/connectors...one splitter on each side made 2 wires into 4. The horns ground through their mounting brackets, so they have to be attached to grounded metal on the car. A splitter would be easy to fabricate, however, out of DIY electrical connectors. Where to mount the horns, however, might be trickier; there not being much room or available metal to mount them to.

    I like the idea...food for thought...hmmmm...

I vaguely remember from years ago, that Cadillacs had a button/switch, labeled "TOWN / COUNTRY".

"TOWN" position only used two of the horns, "COUNTRY" used all four of them.

Some handy wiring should get us running.

    I love it.

I'm not as much concerned about the wiring...the brackets could even be wired to a ground if necessary (as opposed to being grounded via mounting) ... what I'm more concerned about is the available real estate under the hood. I haven't really paid attention to how much space is availabe in there for horns as I hadn't seriously considered them until now.

...and Jim, I remember hearing something about that Town/Country horn set up. I've never seen it, though...interesting feature.

I bought a set of them but haven't put them in yet.

I can't even find the factory horns! I think they are in the fenders.

When you do install them please give us a picture of the original horn location and where you choose to mount the new horns.

On my 2003 deville it was just a matter of splicing onto existing wires. Which I've heard is done on some years though cleaner looking than mine. As to town country buttons maybe on earlier ones package ran 2000 back into 70s. My friends dad had a 87 brogham then a 98 deville both just normal horn switch but trumpet sound. Hardest part was where to mount depending on car extra note horns are from
