Condition Somecustomers may comment on a Stabilitrak® or Active Handling System light beingilluminated. Also, this warning light will be accompanied by a SERVICESTABILITRAK or SERVICE ACTIVE HNDLG message on the DIC. Diagnosiswith a scan tool may reveal a DTC C0710. Cause The mostlikely cause of a DTC C0710 on a vehicle equipped with telescoping/tiltsteering wheel is high resistance in SWPS connector C202. Fretting terminalcorrosion may be present in the SWPS connector due to the telescoping motion ofthe steering column. When the steering column is telescoped in and out, thefemale terminals within the SWPS connector may move on the male terminals ofthe SWPS. This movement between the terminals may cause a high resistancecondition in the SWPS connector. Correction 1. Remove the driver's side closeout(insulator) panel. 2. Locate the SWPS connector thatconnects to the steering angle sensor, located on the lower center of thesteering column. Install the clip (1), P/N 19179794,into the connector. This clip will act as a terminal positive assurance (TPA)and prevent any movement of the terminals. 4. Reinstall the closeout panel. 5. Clear the DTC with a scan tool androad test the vehicle. 6. If DTC C0710 resets during the roadtest, refer to DTC C0710 in SI.

The following diagnosis might behelpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI. Condition/Concern: Whenservicing a vehicle for a Stabilitrak system customer concern, be advised thatthe Tech 2 Data Display may not display the Yaw Rate Signal and LateralAccelerometer Signal voltages accurately. This could cause improper diagnosesof the customer concern. NorthAmerican Operations Tech 2 software applications 27.012- 28.002 are known todisplay the Yaw Rate Signal and Lateral Accelerometer Signal voltagesincorrectly. In example, the Yaw Rate Sensor is shown as -75.53V, and theLateral Accelerometer Signal may be displayed as 1.26V with the vehiclestationary. Theexpected readings will be 2.5V when the signals are working normally. Recommendation/Instructions: Important:It will be necessary to identify thenewer vehicles as a 2006 Model Year in the Tech 2 in order to view VSES Dataafter the Tech 2 has been updated with the older release. A correction for thisTech 2 issue is currently in development and this PI will be updated as to thetiming of its release. If usingthe Tech 2 Data Display is determined to be necessary to read these signals, back date the Tech 2 software to North American Operations application 26.010.Use the following steps in TIS2Web to accomplish this: 1. From the TIS2Web Home page, selectSoftware Download (SWDL). 2. Select Custom for the Update Modeand press Next.
Very informative thread! I ordered the clip and installed it today. The plug on my steering wheel position sensor was really loose. After installing the clip, a whole host of strange handling issues went away. Before the clip, it always felt like the steering wheel was fighting me on the highway, and the car sometimes felt like it would pulse the brakes or cut the throttle. I guess the loose plug was throwing off the stabilitrac system.
