DTS is not an acronym for Deville Touring Sedan on '06+ cars. The last Deville is a 2005 model.

Pre '06, DTS was a trim level.
    '06+, DTS is a model.

They're both "real", but a pre '06 DTS was the top of the line/performance oriented Deville. After that, it could be the top of the line performance model, or a base model. It lost its "special" meaning, so some poke fun at that fact.

Cool Re: Newbie looking to buy used DTS

Okay Submariner, share some more knowlege w mw. What does DTS stand for if not Deville touring sedan? My Cadillac dealer must also be mis informed. Anyway, having gone down the line from 06CTS, coupe touring sedan, to an 08 STS, Seville touring sedan, to my currnet enjoyment....my 10 DTS platinum DTS, Deville touring sedan, I can honestly say it has been a pleasure to drive all 3. The biggest difference though is in the ride and roomyness of the DTS. If you want a sports car then get a CTS or ATS. If you wabt a great comfrtable classic vehicle...a DTS defines luxury well. I like to say I traded a speedboat n for a yacht! If you do find one, get a good one and hang in to it. They will not be making any like them again.

I don't give a rat's hind end what someone wants to call it...
As far as "I" am concerned... My 2006 Cadillac DTS is exactly that... a DTS...

CTS does not stand for "coupe touring sedan". That doesn't even make any sense.

STS does not stand for Seville Touring Sedan for '05+ cars (GM went so far as to drop the Seville Touring Sedan for '04, to differentiate the two DIFFERENT models).

    Your dealer IS mistaken.

The new acronyms all denote a "series". Per GM:

"As the first of Cadillac's S-series of models, SRX foreshadows and shares automotive DNA with future vehicles like the all-new 2005 STS sedan."

    - CTS = C-series Touring Sedan
    - STS (2005+ )= S-series Touring Sedan
    - DTS (2006+) = D-series Touring Sedan

    - Seville SLS = Seville Luxury Sedan
    - Seville STS = Seville Touring Sedan
    - Deville DHS = Deville High-Luxury Sedan
    - Deville DTS = Deville Touring Sedan
    - Deville DES= Deville Executive Sedan

And that would be 100% correct.
