    Smile 650 idle rpm ? Always ?

My car idles bang on 650rpm, I've seen on the board that when it doesn't its time for concern. Prior to being on this board, I wouldn't have had concern because all my other cars did and so does my Pontiac rev a little higher with the A/C on. I have never really looked that carefully at the DTS being in Canada I only run the A/C 4 months of the year not as often as Jim from Texas does I'm sure. It idles at 750rpm with A/C on is this normal, I'm hoping yes.

I was kinda laughing just thinking about it idling at 6,500 RPM and then you turn on the AC and it is idling at 7,500 RPM... LOL
Was wondering what kind of RPM it would turn if you ever STOMPED ON IT... LOL

    LOL...
Mine goes to 7,000 RPM before it shifts... but I'm not sure what it would turn wide open...
Never had a chance to open it up all the way...
I have only had it to 144...it was still pulling but I was running out of room...
It does like to cruise at around 100...

See Jim my rpms are not so off for the way you drive, wish I lived in Texas up here they would take my car away from me for that speed.

Some of our LEGAL speed limits in Texas are as high as 85 MPH... or about 137 kmh...

That is what it should be and it is safer, I have limits of 100kmh= 60mph only. We are far to over governed. I have never felt so un free as I have lately. We are becoming dreaded socialists up here and you're catching up very quickly with you're current President.

I remember in the late 70s early 80s getting stopped by the texas highway patrol for going over 55 on the interstate. Mike

    Re: 650 idle rpm ? Always ?

Believe it or not, not only does idle speed change slightly due to A/C compressor operation (A/C load sensing), it also changes when electrical loads are switched in or out.

The PCM has an idle speed control function that minimizes actual rpm changes due to load shifts. Older carbureted cars had an idle speed control solenoid on the throttle shaft lever that kicked the idle up a notch when A/C was called for.

I would not bat an eyelash if I saw idle speed change slightly - up/down - in the course of daily driving.

EDIT: Wanna see idle speed change during the day ?? Car in P, engine idling. Turn on the head/parking lights, high beam. Step on the brake pedal.
