    I got me a 2008 DTS...now I want Bluetooth...

In a bittersweet moment, I've bought a 2008 DTS Luxury III and traded in my 1987 Brougham d'Elegance. I miss my Brougham, but I also love my DTS. I wasn't looking for one with a cloth top; and if I'm honest, the cloth top was not my first choice. That said, in the short time that I've had my DTS (3 days, so far), I've come to like the added flair of the cloth top.

I have been looking for a DTS for a while now and was hoping to get a 2009 so that I would have Bluetooth and still have the Rainsense wiper system. I have the wipers, but not the Bluetooth feature. My DTS had the standard radio system originally; but the previous owner had an aftermarket system installed. This system has SatNav and a reverse camera. I love this, but the Bluetooth feature is not working on it (the Bluetooth feature won't stay on...and it won't pair up). This leaves me on the horns of a dilemma. My options are:

    1) Send in the stereo unit and have it repaired so that the Bluetooth feature is functional (about $300 or so, I'm led to believe).

    2) Buy a new stereo unit that works properly (likely well over $500).

    3) Install a 2010+ OnStar VCIM and use that system for Bluetooth.

    4) Leave it all alone and not bother.

At this point, I'm leaning toward replacing my VCIM. Today, I went to a local breaker's yard (an LKQ-associated company). They did a search for the OnStar VCIM from a DTS, Lucerne, Impala, VUE. They found one that does not have voice-recognition ($60). They did not find one that has the voice-recognition feature. I don't know if that is a required component for Bluetooth functionality. I don't want to buy the wrong one. Any advice on this would be appreciated.

    Cheers!

    Hello TopherS,

Congrats on your DTS! Nice pictures I hope you are enjoying driving it around so far. Bluetooth is able to function without voice-recognition. Good luck with what you decide to do. If there are ever additional questions or concerns, you know how to reach us.

    Hello again TopherS,

I wanted to follow up on my previous response with you. After speaking with an Infotainment specialist, I was able to find out more about your Bluetooth system. If you choose to go with the part that has no voice-recognition, Bluetooth will still work, but you will have to physically place calls on your phone. Your vehicle will have to be in park in order for you to place a call due to safety reasons. Once you have dialed out the number and have it paired to your vehicle, you can start driving again.

I am in the same predicimant as you are. I am looking at the NEO gateway which is supposed to be plug and play and give you steering wheel control of the ipod/iphone.
Anyone have any experience with these?

Edited -- the Neo unit has bluetooth, is supposed to work with both iPhone and Android and let you put a hard-wired USB charging port in your center console.

Check out bluestar 2010 by costar... It replaces your onstar guts gives you bluetooth ability and ties into your existing internal speakers and mic. The install is a 10 min plug and play for most cars.....well at least on my C6
