    GPS / Head Unit Replacement

I need to replace the GPS/HEAD UNIT on my 06 DTS. Does anyone have suggestions on how to accomplish this without destroying the wood trim? Thank you in advance for your response.

Re: GPS / Head Unit Replacement

Yes-take it to a stereo installation place. The wood (or fake wood) trim around the NAV unit is all one piece that is rather easily removed. I watched a stereo installer do it when I was trying one of those after market gizmo's to allow for NAV use (and DVD use) while in motion. Didn't work anyway but I saw him give a slight punch (or tap) to the left side and it popped the trim piece out of one of it's holders and then he carefully pulled the remainder out of all the other holders. After that, you have to take off the hvac piece just above (also holds the clock I think) and the hvac control unit just below the NAV unit then you get to the screws holding in the NAV unit. Sounds difficult but I swear it took the guy about all of 3 minutes to get the old NAV out. I guess it helps to do it every day.
