Question Strings with plastic ends having owner's manual logo, rear seats

I got my 08 DTS Luxury III about two and a half weeks ago, and just today I noticed a bulge coming at the the top of the left rear seat on the part the faces the rear door. It looked like a pocket of sorts so I reached into it and pulled out a rectangular black plastic piece with a string tied to it that seems to go down behind the seat somehow. It has the owner's manual logo on it, but I don't recall reading about anything like this in the manual (though I could have just missed it). I didn't go through every page of the manual again today, but I tried to look in the sections talking about the rear seats and couldn't find anything. I looked and found the same thing on the passenger side.

I jerked a little bit on the strings and nothing happened. Anyone know what I'm talking about, and if so, what they're for?

They are primarily intended for use by children to make the seat belt position more comfortable. It is fully described in the manual. Go online and pull up the manual for your car and do a search for Rear Safety Belt Comport Belt Guides. Below is from Chapter 1 for my 2006.

    Rear Safety Belt Comfort Guides
Rear shoulder belt comfort guides will provide added safety belt comfort for older children who have outgrown booster seats and for small adults. When installed on a shoulder belt, the comfort guide better positions the belt away from the neck and head. There is one guide for each outside passenger position in the rear seat. Here is how to install a comfort guide and use the safety belt:
    1. Remove the guide from its storage pocket on the side of the seatback.
    2. Slide the guide under and past the belt. The elastic cord must be under the belt. Then, place the guide over the belt, and insert the two edges of the belt into the slots of the guide.
    3. Be sure that the belt is not twisted and it lies flat. The elastic cord must be under the belt and the guide on top.
    4. Buckle, position and release the safety belt as described in Rear Seat Passengers on page 1-25.
Make sure that the shoulder belt crosses the shoulder. To remove and store the comfort guides, squeeze the belt edges together so that you can take them out of the guides. Slide the guide into its storage pocket on the top of the seatback.

Thank you for the replies. I guess I must have skimmed too much in the seat belt section. Case closed...thanks gain.
