    DTS Transmission service

    My 2007 DTS has 30,000 miles. The recommended transmission service is 52,500. Since the oil is already 5 years old should I do it sooner? I have had no problems with it nor do I want any.

    Re: DTS Transmission service

    My dealer did the BG trans service at 38K miles ("their" normal interval is 30K). If you're flushing it, I would do it in the 30K range, JMHO...50K is too long to wait.

    Re: DTS Transmission service

    It is certinally a good question that I have yet to search BITOG fourms for;

    typical oil shelf life is 5 years, even unopened, and motor oil when in use is good for 1 year regardless of mileage, the oxidation that takes place from exposure to air breaks the oil down. In a transmission however, it's a completly sealed design except for maybe a dip-stick and blow-off valve, so the oxidation effect that takes place is slower (since there's less air) and ATF is typically designed to resist oxidation. IMO, if It were my trans and money were not the issue, I'd change the fluid once every 5 years if the car was being driven, just not often. Me personally I'm planning on 30K/3year changes myself. If money were an issue, I'd just wait until 50K, at the rate you're going, it's going to be a 7-8 year old car by then, which might mean it's time for a new anyway.
