Oil leak fixed ! But i have a question !

Had the common Dts oil leak fixed under warranty and picked the car this evening but tech guy had called it a day when i picked up the car.
I was told that the whole engine needs to be lifted out of the car.
My Question is do they have to take off the front fenders ?
I just noticed that one of the front fenders is not aligned with the door.
(gap) This was the only thing repainted on the car from the previous owner . It might have been like that before i brought the car in ?

The fenders do not have to come off to remove the engine.
To fix a valve cover oil leak... the engine does not have to come out of the car.
They usually lower the front part of the cradle and tilt the engine forward.
To take the engine out of the car... it is removed from the bottom... not from the top like in the old days.

Sorry to hear about all your bad luck... and it all coming at the same time...
You are correct.. the struts DO NOT have to come off..
There is a SLIGHT possibility that when the battery was disconnected... all of the computers reset to defaults.
That might cause the ride to be a little different if you have the Performance Sedan with the MRC suspension... otherwise, there should be no difference in the ride.

    Quebec#1,

Glad to hear you got your vehicle fixed. It would be up to the dealership if they had to take them off or not. I would encourage you to speak with them to confirm if they did or not.

    Thank you!

I had valve cover and oil pan gaskets. They lowered my motor from bottom of car. I had a non- GM warranty. They covered all but $100.00. cost $4100.00

Phil it looks like they also did the same to mine valve cover & oil pan gaskets paid the $100 deductible tech guy said it would have been over $3000 if i had no warranty. Also looks like they changed the antifreeze and of course oil & filter and added freon. Written on bill that it was a 24 hour job ?

I checked my bill and I had 25.3 hours of labor. I forgot they replaced the steering rack also. If I had to pay for that bill, it would have still been sitting.

What is the steering rack ?

My car makes a slight knock when making left and right turns, I can feel it thru the steering wheel.

Is that the same thing you were experiencing?

That might be a tie rod or ball jiont, most of the time. The steering rack is called the sterring gear in our DTS, which is part of the steering. Sometime they will make some niose, but mines had a small leak at times and the power streering fliud was blowing back onto the exuast and had a burning smell some of the time.

I had the steering rack replaced on mine.
When sitting still... if you moved the wheel right or left, there was a slight "CLICK" and you could also feel it in the wheel.

If the vehicle hoist lift points are positioned too closely to the lower fender area, the upward force on the fender mounts may cause the fenders to bow outwards, resulting in a door to fender misalignment. This is also a weakness in the 2000-2005 generation and related models.

On mine... sitting still with the engine running...
You could move the wheel a couple of inches from center to either the left or right and feel a VERY SLIGHT catch in the wheel.
And if you listened REALLY GOOD, there was just a slight CLICK or TICK at the same time the wheel had the little catch in it.
