DTS Platinum Edition, Man That Thing Is Loaded

One of the Ag Professors hear at the school has a Platinum Edition White Diamond DTS. That thing seems like it can cook you breakfast with all the options.

We went for a ride in it last week, and the options on that thing are crazy. I especially like the Tetrazini(sp?) leather that is in it. Also the heated and cooling massaging seats aren't half bad either. The lit insteps are a nice touch also. It's just overall cool car. Just thought I would share my experience being a Cadillac enthusiast and all. He says he paid $64,000 and has the title in hand...lol. I'd would've opted for the new V, IMO but I don't have 60k to give on a new car...lol.

Very nice car in my opinion. May try to get some shots of it one day. Also, he's pretty proud to show it off...lol

I like the DTS, but holy crap, $64k? I wonder what kind of equipment you can get on a $64k Lexus LS...

I'm right there with you on that note of 64k, but I guess you like what you like.

IMO 64k is steep for a DTS, but hell it's a nice car. You wondering that prompted me to go look on the Lexus site. I honestly think you may get a bit more performance in a Lexus being they give you damn near 400hp. They also seem to give you all the options the DTS gives you and a few more. Interesting.

Just priced out a Lexus 460...which would be comparable to the DTS in size.

    $73,775.00

Thats $10,000 "MORE" than a fully loaded DTS.

true, it's not my $64k, so no matter to me.

but IMO, the Lex is worth $10k more in drivetrain upgrades alone (RWD, 380 hp...that's about 100 hp more from a same displacement engine!)

The Lexus also has alot more technology available, along with the 'better' powertrain...I still wouldnt want it tho... The only Lexus LS that has appealed to me is the 1st gen...

Re: DTS Platinum Edition, Man That Thing Is Loaded

As I've mentioned before (probably too frequently), my top choices for my next daily driver next spring are an 07-08 DTS Performance or an 05-06 LS430 custom luxury, preferably low mileage CPO with either. (Lexus CPO is 3 yr. from date of CPO purchase / 100K miles v. Cadillac's 6 yr. vehicle age / 100K miles.) My goal is the drive the next car for 6 years until about 180-200K miles. Right now, the LS430 is ahead in my mind due to the better expected reliability, handicap accessibility, interior comfort, quickness, and tight turning radius. The DTS has better exterior looks, cooled seats that really cool, a more planted ride, and much better engine / exhaust sounds. Though the Lexus will likely be a bit more expensive to buy, I estimate that the overall cost of ownership will be lower for the Lexus due to lower depreciation per KBB values for older versions of the same cars.

Re: DTS Platinum Edition, Man That Thing Is Loaded

Although the Lexus may be cheaper to buy, check the service requirements. Just as they found a Caddy DTS over 5 years was cheaper than a Toyota Corolla (because of the frequency and cost of service intervals), you may find that over the 6 years you mention, the Lexus will end up costing you a boatload more $$$ than the DTS.

I'm finding out through my wife's ownership of a Mercedes, with its brutally expensive services, that owning a Cadillac isn't that bad a deal at all...

I estimate what the higher cost of Lexus scheduled maintenance will be offset by lower cost of unplanned repairs compared to a DTS.

The Lexus community has a number of former MB owners who say that Lexus cost of ownership is much lower than MB.

I would probably choose a $25k 2006 DTS over a $25k 2003 Lexus LS, since you'll get a MUCH better deal with the Caddy (and the fact that it will have fewer miles will enhance its advantage in operating costs), but if we're talking about brand-new cars both costing $64k, I just can't see going with the DTS.

Re: DTS Platinum Edition, Man That Thing Is Loaded

When it would come to spending 64k on a car honestly I think the Lexus is comparable to the DTS. IMO I think the 64k base mode LS is comparable to the platinum minus one or two options, the Lexus actually priced at 73k has more options than the Platinum.

I believe the maintenance costs on the Lexus would overshadow the Caddy by a long shot though, but I guess that would be owner preference. I know a family in my hometown who have owned a herd of Lexus cars and some of the maintenance costs that they spoke of were insane. The Cadillac would definitely be cheaper to own minus a few options.

I honestly believe, if the Caddy is cared for correctly it would last just as long as the Lexus. Resale value would suck though.

I personally couldn't imagine spending 60k on a DTS. Now, V series CTS, personally would be worth the coin, because it's a milestone in GM engineering from my view and is a unique car.

Never heard of it. A flip down monitor in a sedan doesn't even sound right.
