    09 Nav Disk Update

Got the 2009 NAV disk update in the mail a few days ago
    I like it so far.

The screen seems clearer / sharper than before. Probably my imagination.
The stupid nag screen is gone.
A digital clock is added to the upper right side of the screen.
You can turn off (and back on) the part on the right side of the screen that shows the next exits that are coming up.
    That "FEATURE" always annoyed me.
It covered half of the screen and if you had a route set...you couldn't turn it off and see your full screen.

Haven't made a road trip yet, but it has several enhancements that I think are good.
Will probably have to go from Texas to S. Carolina in a few days. Sister in Law has been taken off life support after a massive stroke, and now it is only a matter of time.

When you go to insert it for the first time...be prepared for a several minute load time. It is updating all the FIRMWARE in the NAV system itself.

The disk (DVD) stays in the system at all times.

The new one seems to boot up just a little quicker then the old one.
Not a whole lot ...but some quicker.

Seeing how dusty my old one was after over a year in the drive...I will be taking this one out every three or four months and cleaning the dust from it.

I keep my car really clean...inside and out...and yet there was a fine film of dust on the entire DVD.
Kinda surprised me... but after all...it has been in there a year and 4 months.

Yep...there is one BEHIND the NAV screen.

    To open the nav screen....
On the right hand side...press the MENU button...
Now on the top of the screen there should be several SOFT buttons
    Press the NAV button...
Now at or close to the bottom of the list...
there should be a MAP DATABASE button.
    Press that button...
    The screen should open now.

    Thanks Steve for the sentiments.

As for the nav disk...call them at 1-877-628-3472 or go here and put in your VIN and order it online. https://www.gmnavdisc.com
The disk costs $199 bucks from them
I think the part number you need is...
    Part No. 25974486
    2009 NA CH/GMC900/SRX/DTS North America

If you bought your car CERTIFIED..I think you are entitled to one free update.
If not... I would consider e-bay or Craigs LIst to get one for about half price.

    Re: 09 Nav Disk Update

My new disc installed nicely and I was pleased with the digital clock. However, it is set on standard time and did not change onto daylight savings time. Is there some way to change the setting to daylight savings time?

Touch the clock...It will change screens to a SET TIME screen.

    Re: 09 Nav Disk Update

I have had no issues AT ALL with the new update.
It has several enhancements over the 2008 version.

You can turn on and off the right side of the screen where it shows the next exits coming up and stay on FULL SCREEN nav without half of the screen being blocked by the next exit.

The pictorial representation of turns is now MUCH better.
On interstate turns, it actually shows you WHICH LANES you need to be in to stay on your route.

All in all...a worthy upgrade if you use the nav quite a bit.

    Re: 09 Nav Disk Update

I had my 2009 Platinum updated with the latest NAV release, no charge courtesy of my great dealer. This release provides for better NavTraffic features and the improvements are noticable in the sharpness of the icons, resolution contrast, color saturation, and feature/functionality of the system itself.

I really like the NavTraffic feature as well as the richness of the user interface for the Nav generally. All in all a great system and I am looking forward to learning more about it and the new updates in this latest release.

3600 miles on the new ride and she is breaking in nicely; even getting to the point of putting some good foot into it... perhaps not as much as Texas Jim though ;-)
