Unhappy 2009 DTS Headrests

Remove this ad
The front seat headrests in my 2009 DTS are extremely uncomfortable. They lean forward and press against the back of my head all of the time. After a few hours of driving, the back of my head gets sore. And adjusting them up or down does not help. Am I the only one with this problem? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to alleviate the situation?

Re: 2009 DTS Headrests

Are they FIXED in place? I thought they were adjustable.

The ones on my '06 are adjustable.

Re: 2009 DTS Headrests

They ARE adjustable front to back. Just push them back.....hard. But they will still be tilted slightly to the front. I hate to say it but this is the kind of thing that you should check on the test drive......
You might try tilting the whole seat back a bit........

Re: 2009 DTS Headrests

Generally, the new car headrests tilt more forward than in the past, with fewer adjustments, due to new Federal regulations. I don't like them either, in several new vehicles, and the seem to move only "up" and "down" but project forward at an awkward angle. I guess they'll save us from "whiplash," but meanwhile, they're uncomfortable to drive around with in this fixed position!

Well therein may lie the answer for rrcartwright..........maybe a trip to the junkyard.......
Check and see if the Lux III headrests will fit..........
Might even be worth it to buy new ones from the dealer.......maybe one?..........

Re: 2009 DTS Headrests

I'd think that the original poster would want Lux II or lesser headrests. I noticed that the Lux III or higher headrests do tend stick forward even if tilted as far back as they go.

Re: 2009 DTS Headrests

Some of us older drivers have bit of a hunch and those headrests are just fine.

Re: 2009 DTS Headrests

I have the same problem. My wife is at the point to cut them off. I will try pushing them back and see what happen. Maybe another year would work. I had no problem with my 2005.

Re: 2009 DTS Headrests

The headrests in 2009 cars are not adjustable. Check the changes listed for 2009. You'll see it mentioned there.

"1SD and 1SE front headrest articulation deleted (regulatory requirement)"

Re: 2009 DTS Headrests

I reversed my headrests. There is a button on one side to press and on the other side is a small hole you must use a small screwdriver to press in the hole to release the headrest. Pull up and remove the headrest, turn it around and re-insert. You will not have up - down adjustment, but it will be out of the way. Do this at your own risk.

Re: 2009 DTS Headrests

Checking around, it would seem that there are a lot of complaints about the 2009 cars, and not just the Cadillac as Tomko indicated with the "regulatory requirement".
What it seems to be.......
If you drive a premium car with what are known as "active" headrests, the headrests can be further back. Cars like the Nissan Murano have this feature for instance.
However if you drive a cheap car, you do not have the active headrests, and will have this problem. Cars like the Honda Fit have this problem for instance.
