If I were shopping for new DTS shoes, I would absolutely buy a tire with a reinforced sidewall. The improved handling is shocking. My Goodyear's also are great in the rain...but the tradeoff is tire hum. Not a dealbreaker for me, but certainly not as quiet as a Michelin Energy, Pilot, Bridgestone Serenity, or others.
BMW includes Dunlop Sport 01s on their 5 series. (Not a cheap car.) Those tires are ranked 39 out of 39 on the Tire Rack website.

I just purchased a set of Michelin Sport A/S Pluses. Have not yet driven the vehicle, but they better be good for $1,200 or so--with warranty.

Re: DTS Tire Thoughts

Stopping and traction are keys to the Hydroedge, their tires are made differently than Goodyears. Michelin uses a silica compound for traction that is why they don't have to have soft tires that wear out quickly. You can't beat the ride, handling and price of these tires that's why they were rated 5 stars.

I had a set of Michelin HydroEdge on a 2002.
They were great tires.
Fairly sticky and with very good wear characteristics.

I wish they made them to fit my current car.

Re: DTS Tire Thoughts

Well, you guys have me interested. They obviously ARE a quality tire. Tire Rack has an interesting test of them vs the GY Comfort Tread, GY Triple Tread, and the Mich Harmony.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...ay.jsp?ttid=74
The Harmony better be cheap, because it can;t run with the big dogs......and it is not avail for the DTS
But the Hydro edge does very well.
Of course, NOTHING rides as quiet or as smooth as the comfort tread.
But when it comes to handling, it's a good contest between the hydro edge and the Triple Tread.
Interestingly enuf, the hydro seems to be the best in the wet or dry track but they give the handling nod to the Triple Tread in "real world" conditions.....
The Hydro edge is not avail with the thin white sidewall either.........
But it is a good looking tire.....

I don't know........I will have to look at my priorities , but the Hydro Edge is def in the running now.

Even fewer choices in 19s. Prices for 19s are outrageous. Tire dealers will admit that.

I too have read some good things about those tires.
I wish they made them in the right size to fit my Performance Sedan, but they don't. Darn it.

The Bridgestones that I have on my car, are rough and noisy.
Dry traction and handling are real good.
Wet traction is just so-so.

Hey, I think TIRE RACK now stocks our size 245 50 18 GY assurance TRIPLE TREAD tire (UTQC 540 A A)... 199$ each a couple of days ago it was 200$ lol i dont know why it would only go down a dollar...im gonna contact my Good year dealer near by and see how much they go for there... i think Tripple tread would be the best bang for the buck...
I also like Bridgestone Serenity (UTQC 440 AA A)as well as Yokohama advan S4(400 AA A) all three are 100 load index and V speed rated.

My question is what happens if i try to install 255 55 18... to get a bit beefier look out of the tires.. can it be done? any ramifications ?

Re: DTS Tire Thoughts

I just put on a set of Pirelli Zero Nero's. So far so good but will see how they stand up. I really didn't need a V rated tire since I don't plan to drive this car 150mph

But if you DO ever need to...the tires will be safe.
Oh, by the way...it WILL DO 150, or awful darn close to it.
I have seen 143 on mine, and it was still pulling pretty good.
