iPod install in DTS

Remove this ad
Has anybody had an iPod professionally installed in their DTS?
I mean installed in such a way that had just a touch of class?
Having my iPod laying in the ashtray with wires hanging out so that it can be plugged in the front of the (non GPS) radio and into the cig lighter is not my idea of a cadillac sound system.
And yet, my ipod with my collection of 2000+ personalized songs is far superior to the stuff that is radio, satellite or not.
I wouldn't expect it to be controllable from the steering wheel......of course the Vol is controllable.......
I was just looking for some hints before I go off to Best Buy or a custom audio shop.......

Re: iPod install in DTS

Well, I may have found a way to save myself 3 or 4 hundred dollars............

This certainly wouldn't be as sexy as having an integrated solution with steering wheel control.....

However....for 30 Bucks it ain't bad............if it works......

Should recharge the iPod and has a 3.5mm mini out. So a short 12" mini male to mini male should give me the audio........

Just ordered it. Should be here in about a week and should take me about 12 seconds to install it. LOL.

Re: iPod install in DTS

Cool looking gadget.
If I ever get an ipod..I will keep that in mind.

At this time, I just burn mp3's to a cd.
One cd will hold about 250. But I hate messing with them.

An i-Pod would probably hold 1000 or so.
Now you have got me thinking....thats bad.

Re: iPod install in DTS

Sent for it at
http://www.sendstation.com/us/products/smartcharge/

Should have it in by mon or tues......

Thought about this one too........

http://www.macworld.com/product/ipod/365/detail.html

And will go to that one if the sendstation doesn't work.......

One thing that annoys me...........It looks like the Power outlet at the ash tray doesn't turn off with the car.........So I'll have to manually turnoff the Nano. In the old days I would have rewired that.....but in these days and times with Body Control Modules and all.....I try not to change too much of the electronics.....

I have a 16GB Nano....
I listen almost exclusivly to old stuff.
A lot of 50s........some 60s....... and a lot of Classic country.
Right now I have about 2200 songs......thing looks like it will hold another 1000 or more.........

BTW I have an 8 GB Nano, already loaded with my stuff for sale @ $125. Has about 1900 songs on it.

I like the nano because it has a good amount of storage and it does NOT have a mechanical disc drive. I just don't think a car interior is the place to keep a non hardened Disc Drive. The Nano uses a Solid State "drive".

Re: iPod install in DTS

Well got the sendstation in and am pretty disappointed with it.
I didn't study the pix close enough and it is a bit misleading.
I thought the iPod would fit into the device.
Not so.
They include a short cable to go from the device to the iPod.

So....
What it does good....
Charges the iPod through the data connector.
Allows a small stereo cable to run from the device to the Cadillac radio at Line Level. This allows you to turn the volume all the way off and gives the ebst audio quality.

what it doesn't do.......
It doesn't mount the iPod at all.

Re: iPod install in DTS

You seem to be right on track with best buy. I am looking at the same problem and best buy carries an Isimple ( believe isgm 74 ) for 2007-8 dts. It is supposed to charge and operate through regular radio and steering wheel controls. Ipod can be mounted almost anywhere ( I am thinking about glove box or console ).

I am off to buy one now and see if can get it installed. BTW it is just a simple plug in the wire harness installation but not sure I want to tackle getting to the harness myself.
