| | Cadillac Owners Member Cadillac(s): Cadillac | | | | | Dts future I drive a leased 07 luxury 3 DTS. IMHO GM should keep a large Caddy be it FWD or RWD. Caddy is never going to get many Lexus or Mercedes customers anyway so that should not be their aim. My wife traded her Town car and now Lincoln is talking the Townies demise. But Chrysler is making a 6 inch longer version of the 300. As long as we have limos and hearses we are going to need a large car platform so Caddy should stick it out. By the way I also had a 99 STS and God was it expensive to keep running. DTS is soooooo much better. |

Isn't this the best selling model over the last 50 years? Anybody know the stats? So they change the whole line-up to copycat BMW...then what? Does GM honestly think diehard BMW owners are going to flock to Cadillac? I can hear the haughty, biased folks at Consumer Reports now..."not as taut as a 3 series...doesn't handle like a 5 series...interior doesn't match up to 7 series." I don't even think they bother to drive them anymore...just fill in the black dots and give the same negative blurb. GM Execs have been quoted saying that dropping Olds was a blunder and they lost loyal customers to other brands. How soon they forget... |

I want a BIG, COMFORTABLE car.
If I am going to be FORCED to drive a smaller car... there are a lot of them to chose from, and it don't have to be Cadillac.
I don't like the driving position of the CTS AT ALL. It makes my bad knees hurt after about an hour of driving. I have had them for loaners when my DTS was having something done to it.
I don't like the high beltline of the STS. Feels like I am sitting down IN IT too far.
The only one I like is the DTS.
If I can't get what I want from Cadillac... might as well save $20,000 to $30,000 and get a Buick or Chevy.
I have never really considered a Japenese car... but I may have to look again.
Has anyone seen the new Hyundia GENESIS?

In 06 when we traded my wifes Town Car we went to look at the Azera and the salesman kept calling me "buddy" so we never went back. Nothing worse then having a "HIGH SCHOOL HARRY" cal me "pal" |

| | Cadillac Owners Enthusiast | | | | | Re: Dts future The Town Car is already dead, as far as retail customers are concerned. It is built now only for fleet customers and who ever wants to special order one.
The DTS will die after the 2011 model year. And I think that will be a short run, because GM is converting the plant that builds DTS and Lucerene to produce Delta II platform compacts including the new Chevrolet Volt. I do not think they would spend the money necessary to retool another plant to build these two old-school cars someplace else. Especially given that their sales have been falling for years now.
In short, the DTS has no future.

But if I think you'll find it's a little shorter that the STS, so it's not the "big car" you're looking for. To get something that big, you may have to go to a Mercedes S class or a BMW 7 Series. |

Put an LS based engine in it(something like the 6.2 V8 in the Escalade). Sell it for 60-80k, it doesn't have to handle like a 7 series BMW. I'm thinking it should drive more like a Lexus LS430, very isolated. Only it should have that signiture Cadillac style and swagger to it, unlike that snooze box. |

Saw two of them on a dealers lot Sunday. They were not open.
You are right.... they are not even close to the DTS in size.

They all seemed genuinely concerned and hoped that GM/Cadillac was just keeping upcoming plans well hidden otherwise, they knew they would be losing A LOT of customers with the demise of the DTS, even though GM/Cadillac thinks that all the DTS buyers will just take an Escalade when they return for a new DTS and it isn't available. They said they're also worried for Buick because after MY2010, all Buick will have to sell is the Enclave and LaCrosse replacement. Things for Cadillac (and Buick) look really bleak. |

This confirms what I have been suspecting.
Looks like I will need to get a 2010 and plan on driving it a looonng time.
I do not want, and will not buy an Escalade. If I wanted a darn TRUCK, I would be driving one.
Probably a Sierra Denali like my son recently bought. THATS a nice truck. And it is about 25 grand LESS than the Escalade.
Heated and cooled seats...BOSE...NAV... moonroof.. etc etc etc.
But what "I" want is a BIG COMFORTABLE Cadillac sedan.
If they quit making them... I am not sure what I will do, but I will figure out something.

Maybe the new Lincoln MKS. GM is going to be downsizing in the next few years Ford is going to drop Mercury as well I have read. If you think about it Toyota has Lexus, Honda has Acura, so maybe GM is still too fat?I like the CTS I just wish they had a longer version of it. |

The 3.6 DI V6 and 5.3 AFM V8 will be the likely engine offerings mated to a 6-speed trans. A FWD platform generally offers a larger passenger and cargo area compared to a RWD platform of the same length. Overall length will stay a bit over 200 inches. |

They could build the car with a more economical engine and lots more luxury. I also worry about the future of Cadillac if they only build the smaller models and very large gas eating trucks and very few people are buying those. They need to produce the large cars with hydrogen powered engines and engines like the Volt. Cadillac is about big, plush luxurious cars. |

I don't think I will be buying a SMALL Cadillac of an Escalade. Don't care for either one. I want my big plush sedan with comfortable seats.
My current DTS is my 12th Cadillac.
Not knocking the CTS.. it is a good seller for Cadillac...but it just don't FIT me. I have driven a few in the last three years when one of my DTS's was in the shop.
After about an hour on the road... the seating position makes my right knee hurt and after about 3 hours of driving... my right knee and right hip are so stiff I have a little trouble even getting OUT of the car.
You can bet, I won't be buying one of those.
As for the Escalade, The GMC Sierra Denali is almost the same truck as far as amenities go... but $25K to $30K cheaper. It just don't SAY Cadillac on it.
If they don't continue the DTS... I will probably buy a 2010 or 2011.... whatever the last year turns out to be... and drive it for a long time.
