One of the advantages of a transverse engine design is that the shorter engine compartment leaves more room for the passenger compartment and trunk.
You`re right that the transverse engine makes for a shorter engine compartment.I`m sure everyone knows when you look at the Goliath Caddy luxury rides from the 60`s/70`s,a lot of the extra length on those rides were between the firewall and the front bumper as the engines were mounted straight in.
I know i`m a bit repetitive about the smaller size of the current fleet of Caddy
luxury cars-----perhaps it`s because i remember the grand times when excess ruled/no worries of gas prices/mpg,and the roads were full of extra long/wide luxury cars.I see that image in my mind and look at the shrunken down versions being offered today-----there`s no doubt about,"times are a changin".

Re: New DTS/Deville Model Coming Soon?

Just to note that all NEWS to date on the new Caddy says it will be rear wheel drive. So much for a transverse engine. Of course the likely V6 power will be a bit shorter engine.

The 300C says you can keep the interior room and not have an enormous car. I just hope whatever they come up with LOOKS like a Caddy, something the current DTS still does. Too many of today's designs are homogenized: Lexus to BMW to Infiniti to the new Lincoln to the Hyundai of all things (the new Genesis). Hard to tell them apart on a cloudy day.

I agree with the Organic egg shaped designs that were the rage it seems the industry has come out of it a bit.

Cars need personality with some edge to it and cut lines.
