console scratches

I just bought a 2008 DTS lux III used with 4k miles. Its probably the
nicest car I've ever owned. It has a few light scratches on the wood
console that bug the hell out of me. Does anyone know of anything
I can use to get rid of them.?? Thanx.

Re: console scratches

Welcome to the Forum.

I haven't had that problem.
Have you tried any furniture wax/polish?

Just an didea....Maybe Old English scratch cover up? It comes in different shades/colors...
If you try that be sure to get the one that matches your wood.

Use it sparingly ... on a peice of cloth, to cover the scratches and blend them. Then buff with a soft cloth and then wax it.

Re: console scratches

The wood trim has a clear polyeurathane coating on top of the wood. A good plastic cleaner polish can be found in most car parts stores or on-line. Doug_j

Re: console scratches

Doug,

Good answer... better than mine.

I never thought about it being plastic coated.

Re: console scratches

The only hope you have is the tip superjim gave you and I doubt that will work..(if the poly covering went down into the scratch then it will not work because the scratch cover will not soak into plastic.) The plastic cleaner/polish will do only what it says it will..

Re: console scratches

I use car wax on mine. MAKE sure is is just wax though, not "cleaner wax". Cleaner wax is too abrasive for the coating and leaves additional scratches.

Re: console scratches

Thread revival!

I got a few surface scratches on my console from a woman putting her pocketbook there before I could stop her.

Anyway, my usual method of wax helped, but not perfect. So, I bought some plastic polish for clear plastics, as recommended above, at an auto parts store and it worked wonders. Looks perfect again. So, I decided to hit all the clear plastic on both my vehicles (guages, climate control screen, radio screen, all wood parts on dash. console, and doors, etc. Fricken phenomenol. The radio and climate control and analog clock plastic (on the Lade) look brand new - even in direct sunlight there are no tiny sctratches or friction marks. The wood looks new too. Great stuff to have around - going to try it on a boat this weekend (plastic windshield).

This is true the leather in your car is cleat coated as well so just wipe them down every two months with a damp rag and follow up with a dry one.

Having a spray bottle with water works well then you can just work your way around.
