Age: 23 | | | Deville JL9 brakes question hello, guys, little info came up on a search on these brakes, all of which didn't answer my question. also, i'm new to the deville forum- i spend all my time on the past Seville/Eldo forum. So, here's my situation: I ordered the JL9 front calipers from Schram auto, being told it was a direct bolt on (which they are) to my 02 seville. They didn't send me calipers from a Lucerne, like I asked, but from a 07 impala. However, I'm very certain they are the exact same part. here is my inquiry-
1. Are the front brake calipers of the JL9 package that come on the newest devilles the same as the JL9 package offered with the 07 Impala and Buick Lucerne?
2. The reason I am asking is because I want the 12.7" front rotors that come on the new DTS. I'm just trying to be sure that the 12.7" rotors will fit in the calipers from the 07 impala... cuz the specs say that stock rotor diameter is 11.9 x 1.2 for the impala and lucerne, where the stock rotor on the devilles is 12.7 x 1.18.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, SAM |

I'm converting my 1998 Olds Aurora to '06 DTS JL9 brakes, all 4 corners, but not completed yet. I plan on posting a complete DIY Guide for this mod once completed.
Lucerne - if you get parts from the '06 Northstar powered models (option on CXL, standard on CXS), then it uses the same system (complete) as 06-08 DTS with JL9... namely 12.7" front rotors. Otherwise... no-go... and no-go for Impala (to my knowledge).
HOWEVER... you will definitely need the "Backing Plate" or "Brake Shield" from same car... your old one won't do, and you have to have them. This is where you will run into headaches... no salvage yard wants to part them from the front spindle assembly, as they call it (the hub/control arm).
I finally got Nordstrom Brothers in SD to sell me a full set of shields for $100 + shipping... don't assume they'll do it again though. A-One in KS had a single Left Front shield from a V8 Lucerne.
You will need to offer them enough $ to make it worth their while.
My snag (why I was searching here today) is with the rear/parking brake activation cable. My Aurora cable pulls in from the front, the DTS calipers seem to have their cable situated to pull (oddly enough) from the rear.
The hydraulic lines are a direct swap though. If anyone reading this could take a photo of your 2006-2008 or maybe even 2009 rear brakes, showing the parking brake cable, it would be a HUGE help.
Hope this helps someone |

I've looked at both the driver side sticker and the spare tire. Neither says what type brake system I have. It sucks cause I think I made a mistake in ordering so now I'm asking known Deville/Dts drivers how to identify the brake system. Unfortunately I have a set of performance pads from Hawk that don't fit the front calipers. It suck because I have drilled/slotted rotors on the way. Now I'm worried that they may be too big since I believe I may have the JL9 config based on the size of the pad vs caliper. Any advise?
Oh and I ordered the heavy duty ones. |

Take your VIN NUMBER to your local Cadillac dealer.
They can print your entire BUILD SHEET for you.
It will show all of your RPO codes.
Then you will know EXACTLY what you have.

JL9 build on mine. Now I gotta get in touch with the people I ordered my rotors from who are located in Cali. Headache. I ordered the HD rotors and pads from them. Don't think I have HD then. |

Of course you are going to keep the build sheet.
From now on...you will always have the correct RPO when you order something.
Then no more headaches.

At first he looked at me stupid like he didn't know what I was talking about. I didn't feel like the hassle early in the morning. Then I said I just want to know what brake system I had and then he looked it up. I'm not going to that dealership again.
On a good note I did get in contact with the seller and they changed my order. |

If you do...I would probably drop by there "REALLY EARLY" ...just as they were opening up, with a dozen fresh donuts.
I bet you would get your build sheet printed out then.

Had to go to Alexandria for my medical screening for my job. There's a Caddy dealer there too. Matter of fact Ewill3rd is at that one. I will definitely make a trip up there again and get that done though. I should have got on before I left this morning. Oh well. Next time though I will. |

Hope this helps someone | If your still watching this thread I'll take pics in a few days weather wise. Got all the parts for the rear just waiting on the weather. And yes the parking brake cable is on the rear of the caliper. Hope I got the right brake tool to compress the piston.
Got a bent rim the other day so I had to move some rims around the DTS and take the rear 16" wheels from my ETC and mount them on the back until I figure out what to do with the bent rim and crappy Continental Conticraps tires. But my rear brakes are way past due....
SERVICE TIRE MONITOR SYSTEM!!!!! Whats really amusing is that it still thinks it can read the tire pressures in the Eldorados wheels, silly car. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
