After I bought my 06 DTS with bench seats a couple years ago, I was struggling to get my right foot positioned comfortably on the gas pedal. I'm a tall guy. [It was bad enough that the seat is so skinny (I'm 6'4, 225lbs) ].I was not able to place my foot comfortably due to the close proximity of the "transmission tunnel" just beyond the top right of the gas pedal.
To my joy, I discovered that I could remove a small carpeted panel of "trim" from right next to the gas pedal that encloses some stuff under the dash that allows me to place my foot more comfortably on the gas pedal. Don't know if this same issue exists with bucket seats.
The lack of this trim panel does not effect the aesthetics (unless you drive with your head on the floorboard). There is some underdash wiring that is now somewhat exposed but after driving this way for 18 months I have never found myself bumping anything or getting entangled in any way.
