Key Fob Problem

I recently purchased a 2008 DTS.

After leaving a restaurant or other business I have
discovered my trunk lid wide open and realized that occasionally, while the fob is in the pocket of my trousers, the trunk button is depressed. This probably happens when I'm seated.

I carry other items in my pocket with the fob.

Is there a cover or any solution for this problem?

Re: Key Fob Problem

I haven't had the problem of the trunk opening accidently...
but I carry my change and stuff in my right pocket and the keys and fob in my left pocket because it is so big.

I do see where it would be fairly easy to push the button by mistake.

Re: Key Fob Problem

Possible solution that I can think of: Use a 2006-2007 fob that has smaller buttons. (You can find these on Ebay easily.) Downside is that these fobs don't look nearly as nice as the 2008 fobs. thejacketstore.com has silicon skins that might add further protection against accidental pressing, but these are only available for 2006-2007 fobs.

Keep in mind that the 2008 fob is different:

Yep... I was thinking about the difference when I posted.
I had a 2008 SRX for a few days, when they were doing things to my '06 DTS.

But thanks for the reminder.

Re: Key Fob Problem

Thank you, JimKathy1, for making me paranoid, as well as alert to this. I finally took delivery of my 08 DTS Performance on Tuesday morning (I'll post pics as soon as it stops raining/hailing here....), drove it home and into the garage, put the keys loosely in my jacket pocket, bent over to pick up a package and *pop* the trunk few open. Really over sensitive key fob (though my 300C need two presses within 5 seconds to pop the trunk) Ever since, when I park the car, I hold the keys and fob loosely in my hand till I'm a good couple hundred feet from the car and then put them in a pocket. I would imagine the same unlock could occur with the car doors.

Re: Key Fob Problem

You're very welcome Tulsa Vic...........

When I called Cadillac to inform them of this problem I actually expected that they would have a cover or other solution for this obvious flaw in their system.

They acted as though I was the only person in the world that this ever happened to and they had no solution or an offer of any help whatsoever.

Considering that this is a DTS Platinum Edition at about 60K you would expect that Cadillac Motor Division would do more than that.

The problem here is that the button is too large. So if you want a fix, there is an easy one - buy a 2007 key fob, which is smaller but certainly less pretty. I don't see anyone around here with a pre-2008 DTS complaining about this, so presumably the previous fob design was OK.

Personally, I have no problem with this fob other than it is a bit larger than most fobs.

BTW - this fob isn't just used for Cadillacs. It is also used on Corvette, for example (with a different logo of course).

Re: Key Fob Problem

My wife has a 2008 DTS with the new, larger remote (FOB). Fortunately, she never carries it in a clothing pocket, so the kind of incident described has never happened. If she did carry it that way, it might happen a lot. I have had a 2004 CTS-V and now have a 2005 CTS-V both with the smaller remote and have had similar, although very infrequent, experiences like those described. A newer model with the larger remote could become a significant problem for me. The solution of not placing the remote in a pocket until out of range could be the only reasonable solution for now.
