Mobile 1 Oil in New DTS

I traded in my 05 Deville for an 08 Lux III and noticed that it now takes Mobile 1 oil. Did that change take place when the new DTS came out in 06? I find it interesting that my Caddy and my Vette use the same oil.

The '06 DTS uses regular dino oil.
I think the Mobil 1 started with the 2008 model.

Where does it say Mobil 1 is required? Does it state so in the owner's manual or oil filler cap perhaps?

Interesting. Considering Northstars have never needed synthetic (being relatively low-stressed engine designs), I wonder how much of it is to get an additional 0.5 MPG- meeting CAFE is getting tougher and tougher every year.

My 05 also ran fine on regular gas; the owner's manual said to use regular unless you were going to tow something. The 08's manual says to use premium and that using regular would degrade performance. I started out with regular, started using premium, and am now using the 89 octane mid grade gas and I can't say I've seen any difference in performance or gas mileage. I'll probably go back to regular and see what happens; probably every third tank or so I'll throw in some premium.
