$ 19,450.00 to be exact. Thing is, it doesn't have the "Lincoln Ride". It's a decent ride, for sure, but not the Lincoln/Caddy ride.
There are only 2 cars left (in the world) that come with whitewall tires.
Town Car & Grand Marguis.
I was raised on WW tires. I recall, as kids, whan a neighbor brought home a 1959 Oldsmobile 98 Holiday Coupe (2-Dr hardtop) with blackwalls !! HORRORS
We all freaked out, and he earned the name Cheapiee among the kids.
If we ever get a DTS (in some form of matching color combo) or the Lucerne that my wife really likes, I will put on WWs - don't faint. they will be the pencil stripe thin 1/4 inch wide WWs, I think Vogue now has them.
Old ways die hard. A luxury car with blackwalls is a
$19K! That is so much car for the money, what else can you buy for under $20K nowadays?
Does the Michelin Symmetry come in the thin white wall anymore?
FYI, you can also take advantage of the 0% interest for 60 months... can't beat using GM's money for free! Not sure if the DTS qualifies but I am pretty sure the Lucerne does.

.
1. That was his stated savings of a Mercury over a DTS/Town Car, not the price of a Grand Marquis.
2. Yes, when I got new Symmetrys for my 01 SLS this summer, whitewalls were still an available option. I declined the whitewalls as well as the optional curb feelers, fuzzy dice, and steering wheel knob.
First thing i'll hear from the masses, is "WOW - you coulda had a BMW for that !" (or substitute Infiniti, Lexus, Audi, Mercedes, Jaguar) Anything foreign ! I ONLY purchase American Cars, I tell them. In their eyes, I am dead wrong.
The DTS is hard to beat for the price. There are a couple of things I don't like about it - but that's just nitpicking. The car is definitely a head turner and an excellent performer.. It's on my own list of possibilities after my Escalade..
I love the Platinum......

Ditto on the WSW tires. I'm hoping the 18" chrome wheels on my to-be-delivered Performance model will compensate (the chrome kind of does on my 300C). I'd have WSW put on but the brand choice is highly limited. And I don't care for Vogue tyres. Also would prefer wider stripes than you find on the Marquis. Something more like 1/2 inch....
Yes, the Grand Marquis is $19,000 LESS than the DTS & like $17,000 less than a 2007 Town Car Designer Edition, (that I looked at LAST YEAR). (and) That is loaded with every option available, incl. moonroof, WW, leather and all of the rest...incl. thin stripe WWs and chrome wheels.
Tulsa Vic, what do you not like about the Vogues - other than they a a regal PITA to clean (Westley's WW cleaner, a really stiff nylon brush, a small stool to sit on and 2 hours will net ya perfect WWs
What is the other reason ?
Sal, you like the Platinum COLOR -or- the Platinum EDITION ?? Or both together?
They don't go together & that there IS the problem ! Silver metallic car, with pastel cream and dark dark chocolate brown duo-tone interior ??
SOME of their interior color schemes don't go with most or all of their paint colors. They bring out this Diamond Blue Mist (beautiful) and there is only BLACK for an interior with it.....
Either or, Sandy.. I like the Platinum edition because of the chrome grille (which I think all Caddy's should have) and a few other extras... Softer leather, I hear, is one of them..
The cost...and few and far between dealers. They strike me as boutique tires, excuse me, tyres. I"ve always like Michelin....
The appearance: Don't like the yellow stripe + white (the only ones I've seen for the DTS) and don't like that up tight against the wheels. Prefer to see a little black rubber on either side. And the textured surface will only make them that hard to clean (the last WSW's I owned were on a '85 Park Avenue and they cleaned up perfectly with a wet rag and some Pine Sol. Maybe 2 minutes per tire.)
Well, the cost. Anticipated tread life is 60K if I read their warranty correctly, which isn't bad. But the crummy Continentals on my 300C lasted 35K and they were $89.00 per tire.
Oh God, I can't stand it.
The Lucerne Saga........
Went onto Edmunds.com. E'body who owns a 08 Lucerne CSX is complaining about the center armrest. It's way too low and too far back to be of any use, so they all say. 2nd. many have experienced an annoying rattle from under theinstrument panel. Trip to selling dealers have not fixed this. 3rd. I discovered that the emergency brake (Yes, I went today a 2nd time to look) does NOT automatically release, as it does on my 93 Caddy and my 03 Town Car. 1 week and I will bust it, as I have not manually released a brake since 1988. Next. No HID headlights. WHAT? Not available ! So, all of this has spoiled it. Went to see the Grand Marquis. Well, it's got the Auto Brake Release but little else. (No HIDS). So, it comes down to the Caddy. But, the way I want it, it's just too steep money-wise. I have medical bills to pay, property taxes and how can I justify spending $60,000 on a car? Okay, $40,000 from the return of the money from my impending sale of my 03 Town Car for $20,000. Still..... I am scared to take the plunge.
I miss Oldsmobile 98 Regency Broughams. Maybe they'd have it all .....
I miss Imperials, too. They always had it all.
Course if they were still around, they'd be 300s with hidden headlights and little else.
