Mary Kay buys the cars on two-year leases, GM officials said. After the lease expires, Mary Kay requires GM to repaint each car something other than pink before it's sent to auction.
"The paint is only available to Mary Kay," said Robert Minton, a spokesman for GM's fleet and commercial operations.
Re: Has anyone bought an 06 DTS Mary Kay throwback?
Well, it should have been mainly "woman driven". It's probably unlikely that it shlepped around a bunch of kids in the back seat and dirty stuff in the trunk. It probably had a younger driver than the typical DTS and a fair percentage of highway miles to attend distributor meetings. One concern I'd have is the likely heavy use of perfumes that could have infused the headliner and other fabrics. Probably not as big a deal with leather seating. (I once had a company car with cloth seats that was used by another manager while I was out of town for a few weeks. The guy's wife must have put on perfume while in the passenger seat everytime she was in the car. The car stunk for weeks after I got it back.)
Re: Has anyone bought an 06 DTS Mary Kay throwback?
How badly do you want one?
I bought a 1988 in 1990, but you can no longer do that, as they now go back to the leasing Co. and MUST be repainted white.
BUT
There is a way to get one, if you really really want one. Find the M.K. Rep in your area. Cruise by her house early on a Sunday AM to eye-ball the car and see it's appearance. Then, call her and ask if she could drop off a M.K. catalog. Be friendly and engage her in chatter and purchase some men's after shave or Cologne. The cologne is pretty decent, BTW. Do this a couple of times. Buy something for the females in your life, and get chummy with the M.K. Rep.
Ask the M.K. rep if she would purchase her Caddy from M.K. when it's do to go back. (I do understand that the Rep does have the opportunity to buy the car herself.) Then, you can buy the car from her!
(You may have to draw up legal papers if she needs a bridge loan to buy it - if she doesn't have liquid $$$) The certified check cannot come from YOU !
She buys & titles the car to her, and then you buy it from her & title it to you.
BE aware.... They are totally stripped, void of ANY options !!
Re: Has anyone bought an 06 DTS Mary Kay throwback?
You don't have to look that hard. Ebay is a good source. Just 3 months ago, I was looking for a used DTS and found approximately 8 Mary Kay lease returns. All were repainted white, of course. (Here's one that is currently up for auction: Ebay Link.)
If you want one, you probably have to wait another few months for the leases on 2007 Mary Kays to expire since it seems the wave of 2006 Mary Kay's just passed.
I would have gotten one, but I wanted Stability Control and all the Mary Kay's are base models. The 2006 base model does not have Stability Control (Stabilitrak standard) but the 2007 base model does. I think a 2007 Mary Kay will be an excellent deal if you can wait for it.
Re: Has anyone bought an 06 DTS Mary Kay throwback?
I think the whole purpose was that he wanted a PINK one. There are hoards of '06 Pearl Whites 4-sale all over, that are not re-paints.
I bought a 1988 Sedan deVille (pink) for my wife in 1990 from out local Mary Kay Rep. Back then, it was easy to do. Last I understood, the Reps were allowed to purchase the car from the leasing company, while the car was still in the Reps possesion, at lease end. Show her $1,000 "profit" and make yourself a customer of her products, and establsh a customer relationship with her, and she will probably do it for you.
It's alot to go thru, to obtain a stripped DTS. Their cars have zero options.
If you ever see one coming off a delivery truck at a dealer, look at the window sticker ! Top line says Cadillac DTS
Then there is like 10 inches blank paper, and then
DESTINATION CHARGE
and then the total.
Re: Has anyone bought an 06 DTS Mary Kay throwback?
There actually are some 07's out there. They are rare at this point but I did run across a couple.
I actually wasn't looking for a pink one...just looking for a good deal on a DTS. I bought an 06 this weekend and and drove it home 1600 miles. It was the lowest mileaged that I had run across at 16,200 miles and in very good shape. They had about eight of them...six left over from 15 they had purchased last month and two that had just arrived (which mine was one of those two)(They have one 07 with 20k on it for $22k). Some of them had really bad paint jobs and others were really quite good. I'm going to have a clear bra sprayed on so I don't end up with pink paint chips. Other than that we're gonna drive the sucker for a couple of years and sell it before the warranty is up. Best thing is that I won and got a DTS for less than we were going to pay for the used Grand Prix that she wanted with more miles. The DTS is soooooooo much more comfortable and less plasticy.
I knew that I wasn't going to get a fully loaded DTS, but it was for my fiance and she is currently driving a 2000 Chrysler Cirrus LX, so it is still quite an upgrade!
