2006 DTS paint

Remove this ad
I have an '06 DTS with 23,600 miles on it. The dealership virtually destroyed the paint finish when they took a wheel to the car to polish it. Swirl marks and scratches are evident when it gets dirty and in the bright sun. The car is black, and I am curious as to what kind of warranty is on the finish of the car. I am not bringing this car back to the dealer I bought it from, as they ruined the paint job, and they keep telling me they have done everything they can do.

Re: 2006 DTS paint

Take it to a good detail shop, they'll be able to remove the swirls. I don't trust the guys at the dealerships, seems they don't usually have alot of experience.

Re: 2006 DTS paint

If the polishing was to remove surface contaminants it just imbedded them. the finish needs a clay bar job followed by Maguiars NXT this is all hand applied then hand buffed with soft towels. this is the process i have used on my black 06 and it still looks new.

Re: 2006 DTS paint

make an arrangement with the dealer owner/GM to have your car professionally done by a local detail shop (a pro detailer will properly buff and fix the finish, unlike the 18 year old with a dirty rag at the dealer), with the dealer paying the bill. no go? get a lawyer.

Re: 2006 DTS paint

I previously contacted my dealership after they made the swirls, and told them that I contacted my attorney and spoke with Dept. of Consumer Affairs. The dealership then took my vehicle in for about a week and had their body shop work on the car. My guess is they just put a heavy amount of wax or some sort of polish to cover the marks, but as I stated previously in my post, when we wash it or rain hits it-bam-here comes the swirl marks. I have a guy that details all my vehicles and I will try some of these other methods that you guys have posted.

WOW-I got the NXT as you suggested and spent a few hours on the car, and it looks great! Thanks for the tip.

Re: 2006 DTS paint

I will tell you something the definition of a "detailed" car these days is for the birds! I came up in the early 70s when people took pride in their cars. I dont even have my Caddy dealer wash my car i do it. If i have a car into be serviced i always find grease on the door panel and steering wheel. So much for quality work.

Re: 2006 DTS paint

You know, I agree totally-and it seems like Cadillac should be the "drivers",so to speak when it comes to customer service, but let the truth be known-I got better service from Saturn when I bought my mom a car there. They hand delivered the vehicle-with flowers and balloons for her.The vehicle was transported out of state, and was completely detailed before and after. Kid glove- you know ??
I guess we pay for luxury and comfort, but customer service is extra....

Re: 2006 DTS paint

I just bought a Lux III on Saturday and told them they could wash the car but not wax it. I bought an 05 black DeVille from them previously and it had swirl marks galore. This new one is Light Platinum; much easier to take care of.
