2008 dts lane departure problem?

My father just got an 08 DTS. Has all the bells and whistles. Anyone familiar with the lane departure system? Doesnt seem to work. I read the manual and the manual said you need to turn the system on. The on/off switch is located near the exterior lighting controls. Problem is there is no switch! Im pretty sure the car was ordered with the lane departure system. It even has the camera that detects the lanes which is under the rear view mirror. Is it possible they forgot to put in the on/off switch?

Re: 2008 dts lane departure problem?

I have not seen your car so I am speculating here but... if there is no ON/OFF switch, I don't think it has the the lane departure system. I can't believe that Cadillac would put in everything but the ON/OFF switch.

The thing that looks like a camera that you are seeing by the rear view mirror is the sensor for the IntelliBeam automatic headlight dimming system.

If you have the window sticker, look at it and see if the lane departure system is listed there as an option. If it is, a quick phone call to your dealer or salesman should get you the info you need to turn it on.

Re: 2008 dts lane departure problem?

You may be mistaking the intellibeam camera for the lane departure camera.
If it had a switch it would be located in the headlamp switch assembly.
The intellibeam camera is attached to the rear view mirror, it has a small window in it that looks forward.
The lane departure camera is mounted off to the right of the mirror, it is about 3" by 4" in size and if you look at it from the front you can see a round camera lens with a sort of triangular opening around it.

Re: 2008 dts lane departure problem?

I thought the camera mounted under the rear view mirror was for the lane departure system. I looked at the window sticker and sure enough its says nothing about the ldw system or adaptive cruise control for that matter. We have the worst cadillac dealer here. Impossible to get a hold of anyone over there. We told him we want every option available. He says sure, no problem. It seems we dont have those two options. Is it a big to do to install or just not possible?

Also, how does the intellibeams work exactly? Ive seen it go on at night. Are the brights supposed to go off automatically when an oncoming car is approaching?

Re: 2008 dts lane departure problem?

The IntelliBeam will automagically turn on hi beams when you are above 20/25 mph AND it does not detect headlights from an approching car or tail lights from a car in front of you. Driving in a residential area, it will usually NOT switch to hi beams. Even on parked cars, it will see the tail lights and stay on low beam.

At least that is the way mine work on my '06.

I don't think it would be possible to install either one of those options yourself. The adaptive cruise uses a radar gun mounted (I think) in the grill. It would have to be tied into the computers/LAN of the car to kow when to slow down and speed up. The lane departure system uses a seperate camera and has to be tied in to the computer/LAN Major expense and major wiring and reprogramming of the computers to tell the car that it now had those options.

Re: 2008 dts lane departure problem?

Will intellibeam turn the hi beams off automatically as well? Or does it just turn them on?
Thanx for the replies!!!

Re: 2008 dts lane departure problem?

The lane change camera is very interesting, since I really like gadgets of
that type. I didn’t - of course - have it on my 06 (don’t even think it was
available then).

“Specifically” what does it show, where is the camera screen and how big
is it? (Or does it use the Nav screen?) I assume that it shows the blind spots,
which (for an old guy like me) would be very helpful. And, what does it cost
as an option?

Also, since I haven’t looked at an 08, is a back-up camera available that
shows in the Nav screen? I’ve seen this in a Lexus and it is great! Believe
me, the older you get, the more appealing these outside cameras appear.

I believe there is an icon in the dashboard that will blink and there is also a sound alert if you go out of your lane without signaling.

I dont think there is a backup camera option. Would have been nice though.
