Re: 2008 dts lane departure problem?

The camera doesn't send a signal to anything, it just processes road markings and sounds an alarm if you deviate from the lane. It also flashes a light I think.
There is another system for your blind spots, with sensors in the mirrors and rear quarter panels.
I am pretty sure that is also a claxon and a light setup.

No backup camera.

Also, since I haven’t looked at an 08, is a back-up camera available that

me, the older you get, the more appealing these outside cameras appear.

Big Jimm,

Actually the Lane Departure SYstem and the Blind Spot Warning are two different systems. Kind of.

The Lane Departure System has a camera up by the rear view mirror that watches the white lines. When you get too closs to the left line... it BEEPS at you and flashes a little light on the dash. It thinks you are drifting out of your lane and warns you. "BUT" it only does that if you are not using your turn signal. If you ARE using your turn signal to change lanes... it stays quite.

The Blind Spot System has a proximity radar built into the rear fender and a little ICON in the right hand outside mirror. When someone is right by your RIGHT REAR fender... where it is hard to see them... the little ICON in the outside mirror is blinking. Therefore is you were going to change lanes to the RIGHT, and looked in the right outside mirror... you would see the ICON BLINKING and warning you that there is a car there.

At least that is the way I understand it. Someone will correct me if I am wrong. It was not available when I bought my 2006.

As far as back up cameras... they are available aftermarket, but not from Cadillac. I would like to have one also. It would be safer when you are backing up, plus I love GADGETS.

Jim from Texas

Re: 2008 dts lane departure problem?

Jim from Texas is correct in his description of the Lane Departure System and the Blind Spot Systems. The Lane Departure System works quite well (too well for my wife - she made me turn it off), but I don't think there is any way to turn off the Blind Spot System.

Regarding the adaptive cruise control, there is a RADAR unit behind the grill that controls this feature. However, the grill must have an area (e.g., something plastic) that doesn't interfere with the RADAR signal. Certain all-metal Vogue grills require that the RADAR unit be moved. My dealer moved the RADAR unit down behind the plastic bumper facia, but it tend to get dirty quicker there. It will put a warning in the DIC and stop working (i.e., no cruise control) unless the gap distance is reduced. So far I have not seen the warning with the gap set to two car lengths.

Ted....Can you expand on the ACC ....I just now finished installing an EG aftermarket grill in my soon to be delivered DTS.The unit is in the Cadillac crest which I moved to the new grill. Why was it necessary for you to reposition this part.....Am I missing something here....?
Thanks

Re: 2008 dts lane departure problem?

I would not recommend re-positioning the radar. The positioning and alignment of the radar unit is not only crucial, but the software that processes those signals assumes a specific position and alignment. You can move the radar unit, but the software still thinks the radar is behind the grill. Radar is not a simple aim-it and wire-it-to-a-buzzer-system. A lot of digital signal processing and situation assessment occurs. Re-locating the unit significantly compromises performance.

You wouldn't believe the things engineers have to fight against to get proper positioning and aiming.

Re: 2008 dts lane departure problem?

Whether or not nosro recommends it, moving the ACC was what the dealer did and it works just fine in the lower position except for the problem (frequent CLEAN RADAR warnings) I described. As I indicated, reducing the gap solved that problem. Obviously there is a potential for excessive dirt on the RADAR unit no matter what position it is in, or there would not be a warning.

For Rapid Roger, I said that certain Vogue grills required that the ACC be moved. Actually, Vogue does not make recommendations (as far as I know) and the moving option was the dealer's choice. The fact was that the new grill was all metal (vertical round bars) and had no plastic center section that the ACC could send and receive its signal through. If your after market grill has a plastic (or otherwise non-metallic) hole in front of the ACC (it probably needs to be about the same size as the existing shield and wreath insert), it should work fine.
