Quality control on V type grills

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I stopped at local Caddy dealer yesterday and looked at a few cars they had on showroom floor.

3 of them had and aftermarket mesh type grill. On each of them, the Caddy emblem was crooked, kind of like the salespeople...???? One of the emblems also had a blemish in the colored glass of the emblem.

One of the emblems was mounted with about 1/8th of an inch from being straight up and down; the second was mounted about 1/4 inch from straight up and down. I do not remember the third emblem offset.

These were on a DTS, STS, and CTS.

Re: v grills; poor quality from aftermarket company

More than likely its a dealership issue, whoever is installing them obviously doesn't have a tape measure. If they were actual v-series' from the factory with those grill issues, I'm sure they would not have let them leave like that. I dunno how a v-grill would look on a dts...

Re: v grills; poor quality from aftermarket company

Those grills are made by a company called E&G, and the fitment on those is some of the worst I've ever seen. The actual shape of the grill border (the chrome part) will NOT line up flush with the bumper- whoever designed the piece should have compared the measurements to a factory grill. Most of the time the problem is located at the lowest point at the bottom of the grill (it sticks out a good 1/4 inch past the bumper).

The crooked emblems are an installer issue, but the grill itself is garbage as well. The materials and construction are nice, but the shape just isn't right.

Re: v grills; poor quality from aftermarket company

I bought an E&G grille on eBay a while back and installed it myself. Personally, I'm happy with its fit and appearance. As far as the emblem fitment, the stock emblems stick to a round plate, which is attached by two bolts to the grille, and can be rotated to fit correctly. Sounds like the crooked emblems you saw were an installer oversight.

My only gripe is that I wish the grille did not have a provision for the emblem; it would look so much cleaner without it. Even a smaller emblem would be better than the current size.

I have seen some Escalades with Caddy emblems that look 10" in diameter.
