I remember that day like it was yesterday...
I had sold my Roadmaster on 12/9/04 to a 74 year old prysbeterian minister, the day after I sold that car, we were looking for cars to buy the day later, my dad, brother Wyatt and grandpa went to look at a '91 Sedan deVille..I believe it was silver with blue leather, but the car wasn't at the house we went to, nor was the owner. Later that day, my dad and little brother Wyatt went up to North Dakota to visit some of my dad's family, so my grandpa and I went to go look at some more cars. First we looked at a triple burgundy '93 Sedan deVille with like 16x,xxx on it...nothing too nice, didn't want another all red car. We put that one on the "maybe" list. The same dealer had a '93 Taurus SHO with the 3.2 V6 and the auto. I drove it and wasn't that impressed, but I never opened it up... We left that dealer and went home, on the way home we stopped by a dealer that had a 1993 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Regency Elite, and it was a pretty nice car..I believe it was triple navy blue, with leather and the digital dash I loved. The Ninety Eight was originially the car I wanted, but since my parents said I could have a Cadillac, the Olds lost out. After those two, we didn't look at any more, but there were a few more that I would have liked to look at (white 92 Fleetwood Sedan, beige 91 Coupe deVille with 7x,xxx miles, triple carmine red '92 Sedan deVille) but we gave up for that day.
I get a call a couple of days later from my dad up in North Dakota. While they were at my great aunt's house, they had searched the internet for 1991-93 deVilles and found a Beige '92 Sedan deVille with beige cloth seats, my dad test drove it, looked over it thoroughly, and thought it was perfect for me. He put a down payment on it and made an arrangement with the owners of the dealership (a small family owned place) that the car would be picked up when they were down in the Twin Cities at the local auto auction. So upon hearing this, I was very excited, yet a little apprehensive about owning a beige car, and a Cadillac without leather seats, but my dad said the car was in near perfect shape, with under 100k miles! (a big bonus for me)
So when my dad and brother got home the next day (12/13/04 if I remember correctly) they gave me the internet printout of my soon to be Cadillac. I was very impressed! It was as clean as I had dreamed it would be. They told me then about the delivery arrangements. We would meet them that morning at 7:55, in a city 40 minutes from my town, so that meant I got to SKIP OUT OF SCHOOL AND BUY A NEW CAR! How cool was that?!
So the next day, I gave a note to my auto shop teacher, which was the class I was in from 7:30- 9:00, it said I had to be out of class that day, but it didn't say why. He asked me why, and I said "oh no big deal really, just buying a Cadillac!" He laughed and said ok.
I'll never forget that morning, the morning of 12/15/04, I remember getting up at about 6:30 to get showered and eat, and my dad and I left at about 7:15..to be a bit early, just in case. So we get there and we were sitting in his Lumina, watching for my car, and after about 15 minutes, it pulls in the side exit, way off in the distance. I'll never forget watching it calmly glide through the parking lot, with the three guys from the dealership in it. They parked off somewhere, and we rushed the Chevy next to them, we all shook hands and we gave them the certified cashiers check and they gave my dad the title and me the keys and I was in! A member of the Cadillac owner's club! Finally!!! The ride back to Eagan was magnificent, I noticed that the Cadillac was much smoother than the Buick, and it was really warm inside and the seats were oh so soft! We came home for a bit, so my mom could snap some pics and I then I was off to school!
That was me the day I bought it. There wasn't any snow that year, just like there is no snow here this year. But December 15 2005 was very different!
On December 14 2005, we got pounded by a snowstorm. I think we got 8-10" that day. That's the day that I caused $4230 worth of damage to my car...
These last two years have been two years of a lot of change. End of high school, start of college, start of working full time. I've put on about 30,500 miles on the car in this time, and she's been with me every step of the way, thru thick and thin. I have many good and a few bad memories with this car, but I'll never forget it, even though sometimes I take it for granted. Cadillacs, ya never forget your first! |

Instead I'll be saving that money towards the next car. The more I save, the quicker I'll have it! |

I contacted my uncle about it, and he says he'll be around to work on it Tomorrow or Monday. Also, my dad and I are taking it to an independent muffler shop so we can figure out what is causing that super annoying rattling sound all the time. It sounds like it's coming from the cat, but the owner of the muffler shop said that's highly unlikely because cats rarely fall apart from inside. |

Mine had broken loose and was making a god-awful rattle. When I took Cruella in to replace the front wheel bearings, they took off the heat shield. Rattle gone and no adverse effects. I still need to replace the muffler sometime in the next few months. |

We pounded on the heat shield once before with a mallet. It didn't budge. It's gotta be something internal. Maybe I got a faulty muffler installed and it's that. Flowmaster time! |

Still have a bit of front end damage, but it looks decent. And from a distance, you can't really even tell anything is wrong. |

I was cruising about 75 on the 403, came around a bend and the damned thing was just standing there. I had just enough time to see it look up at the car, swerve, and then take a huge chunk out of its flank. I'll never forget the feeling in my gut, and the tears in my eyes when I pulled the car over and surveyed the damage. To the cars credit, I barely felt the impact and kept driving a ways. I hoped there wouldn't be any damage but when I noticed that the hood was flopping a bit, I stopped. I drove around for near two years with a black replacement hood and fender. I finally found a worthy replacement in my 1991 4.9. |

They have massive problems with shocks, a/c and water pumps, but never the engine or transmission. In fact after 7 of them I wouldn't buy anything else. I lived in KC and traveled to western Nebraska and St. Louis, but the real utility was in the rapid depreciation somebody else paid for, and the ridiculously low insurance for teenagers. I liked putting a lot of sheet metal between my children and their opponents.
Remember the only person ever taken out of a Cadillac dead, is the one that went in the trunk dead. Living now in North Carolina, where the two-laner and Monster trucks are king, having a big car is a comfort.
In regards to your repair - in KC a Place called Ajax carries only Cadillac parts, and since Cadillac makes so few colors, you don't have to repaint them.
Ten minutes with a screw driver, $150. and you'll have it looking new.
I hauled the fender home in my other deville. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
