I'm talking about the:
1991-93 Fleetwoods (especially Coupes)
1991-93 Fleetwood Sixty Special/ Sixty Special
1992-93 DeVille Touring Sedans
1991 STS/ETC
1992 STS/ETC
Heck, you could throw in the 1991-93 Coupe deVilles too!
So if you own one of these, please respond and show a pic! I'm interested to hear how you got it too. Whether you had to have the upper model, rarer 4.9 powered car or you just stumbled across it and liked it!
-Chad
PS. Please don't move this thread to the 4.9L section. This thread really isn't about the 4.9, rather it's about the rare Cadillacs that have them. I figured it would be best in there because most of the models mentioned are the FWD C body Fleetwood or deVille. |

I have had a fleetwood 60 special and its long gone. I have my 93 triple black couple deville. I have had it since 96 when I bought it off of the finance company that I repoed it for. It replaced a 91 cdv. It had 27000 miles on it and has factory cd and moonroof. Had the gold package but I hate the look of the gold package on a black car. Car has never been painted on and is as nice as the day it was new. I am currently in the prosess of puting a northstar in it. Some think I am crazy for it but I always thought that they should have made one that way |

I'm not surprised Sandy got in on this thread before I did. I was browsing here yesterday from work, and saw this thread, but didn't have any pics of my car on my computer at work, so I had to wait until this morning to post. Here's mine- a 1993 Sixty Special. (Okay- I know, I hadn't vaccuumed the floor mats the day I took that last picture.) So, here's the story of how I came to buy it. In June, 2005, I had purchased a 1990 Convertible Corvette, which gave me two Corvettes. And I loved owning a Convertible... for a while. The problem was that the 1990 began to nickel and dime me with constant repairs. I ended up selling the '90 vert in early 2006, and in the eight months I owned it, I had to replace the passenger side power seat motor, the master break cylander, the rubber lining around the fuel neck filler, the alternator and change some of the solenoids in the power antenna. Keeping it would have driven me into the poor house, and let's face it, where I live, I need a vehicle I can use in the winter. Having one Corvette isn't the most practicle solution. Having two is asking for problems. I ruled out early on replacing the '90 vert with a 4WD. Here in Colorado, demand for them keeps the prices way too high, and I only wanted to pay cash for my next vehicle. I didn't want a second car payment. The only 4WD's I could afford to pay cash for were easily 15+ years old, and in the range of 200,000 miles on the clock, and by the looks of them, they weren't entirely "easy" miles. No thanks. So I decided on Front Wheel Drive. And I decided ultimately to go looking for a Sedan Deville. I looked in the papers, locally. I checked Ebay. I went onto Autotrader, and I eventually found this one. At the time I was checking, I had never heard of a Sixty Special. Apparently, neither had the dealer I who was selling this one- it was listed as an 'Executive Edition Sedan DeVille." The pictures looked great- it certainly trumped anything I had seen up to that point, and it was even in my favorite color for a car: black. And it had upgrades above a Sedan DeVille that I really liked. The "dealership" was actually the car-refurbishment and selling arm of a non-profit group- the ones who take in donated vehicles and give the donators a tax credit. And when I got a car-fax, everything seemed fine. There was just one problem... ...the car was five states away from me. Not a problem! I had an acquantaince of mine (someone I know from another forum) go and check the car out for me, and give me an unbiased report about it. The report was generally positive, but for one thing: the car had a siezed AC compressor that would need to be replaced. Making a few phone calls locally, I found out that I could get the work to replace the AC compressor done, but that the only way they could do it would be to convert the car to R-134a refrigerant. No one I talked to anywhere in Denver was willing to talk about keeping it R-12, as they had long ago decided dealing with the environmental regs on using freon had proven too expensive for them. But this gave me a chip to bargain with, though. I ended up buying the car for $2,200. Add $700 to have it shipped to me, and I still came out under $3,000, and I own it. First order of business when I got it was to get the AC compressor fixed, which I did for $1200. Before you complain that I've altered it too much by converting to R-134a for the system to be effective, I've now had the car for 10 months, and through this past summer, the AC worked flawlessly, and cooled the interior just fine. In April, I had the window tint applied. Looks kind of intimidating with that limo black all the way around. In August, knowing that winter was only a couple of months away, I had an alarm with a remote start feature installed, so I could warm it up nicely on cold mornings before I got in for a drive. I have zero regrets about buying this Sixty Special. It's so comfortable to drive- I took it to a conference in Telluride in September. Not only did it handle the snow over Monarch Pass just fine, I got about 28 MPG on the trip. And then there's all the extras: Upgraded wood trim on the inside. The Fleetwood style skirts over the rear wheels to complete the look. Fold down lighted vanity mirrors in the back. Italian leather in the seats. 22-way power adjustable seats. I have a car with a power-adjustable Head Rest! How cool is that? The fact that it's rare probably means more to me than it does to casual observers of cars. But it is a rare find, and with 120,000 miles, I plan to keep it for a while. |

Very very nice! You don't mention any moonroof, so I take it that it doesn't have one (or did I miss that part?). If not, that's unusual as the ULTRAinterior cost $3,550.00, when new, so a moonroof at $1,200 is peanuts. She's nice looking and best of luck with her.
If you'd like her "proper name" it's Sixty Special ULTRA. (Cadillac always spelt the ULTRA in caps, so I do as well.) What is also rare is that for 1989, 1990, 1991 & 1992 the only colors used for the interior were deep garnet red, navy blue or light grey, in the ULTRA.- The "new" color for 1993 that joined the aforementioned, was BLACK....so, black was a 1 year color, and by far, the rarest.....and you have Black !!
I had my heart set on white leather & took that route over the ULTRA, as that did not come in White. The final year (as it turned out) for white leather in a GM car was 1993 (who knew??) Riviera, deVille & Sixty Special and Corvette were the last hold outs, along with Trans Am & Camaro SS, and 1991 Olds Toronado. |

CoBlackZ06, yours is gorgeous too!
Back before my father found my '92 and put a deposit, the two Cadillacs around me that I was most likely to buy were a tan '91 Coupe deVille with 76k on the clock, and a white '91 Fleetwood Sedan. I actually still have the autotrader internet ads for both of those in my room! |

| | Cadillac Owners Member Cadillac(s): 1995 Sedan Deville | | | | | Re: Looking for the owners of the "rare" 4.9L powered Cadillacs! I previously had a 91 Plymouth voyager for use in toting my rugrats around, and a Mazda pickup for anything else, but the minivan transmission crapped out, and after replacing that, the engine had oil in the water, instead of the other way around, and the paint is looking like a sick wet dog. So, I parked it, contacted one of my clients that had a dealers license, and told him I wanted a crimson colored 95 sedan deville with a 4.9 and no northstars for around 7 grand. I had done research on msn for vehicle problems and what they cost, and out of all the models in the 90's, the 95 seemed to be the least expensive, you have to consider any aging vehicle will have some problems. I specifically wanted the 4.9 because IMO the N* was more expensive to maintain and fix. Well, 2 weeks later, he found me the car, and from what I've read on this forum, mine's the metallic dark plum, and same color interior with leather seats all for $7300 with less than 80,000 miles. But I did have to change 2 sensor/valve things that go in the A/C lines next to the firewall because the freon leaked out there, all new rotors and pads, there are a few small paint dings, the plastic screw covers on the door pull handles are missing, did a tune up with new plugs, wires, rotor, and cap, and the right speakers crapped out on me. |

Sandy, Ah, yes, I forgot to mention you had told me I had an "ULTRA" Sixty Special. Sadly, no, there is no moonroof. I would have liked a moonroof, but as rare as these are to find, I couldn't find one with a moonroof at all at the time I was looking. So my priority became the rare, 1 year color of black (although I had no idea black was a 1 year color at the time). I~Luv~Caddys, Thanks for the compliments! My sister and her husband think I've decided to own a pimp-mobile. My dad, who has never been a GM fan, just thinks I've lost my mind. Only my mom seems to really like the car. You know, we were getting snow flurries around here today. Not enough to accumulate on anything but the lawns, but it did make the roads quite wet. I went down to Colorado Springs for dinner with the family tonight, and took the Sixty Special. By the time I left to come home, the temps had dropped enough to turn the wet roads a bit icy. Not only did the Sixty Special handle it like was nothing, I have to say I really love heated seats. -Patrick | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
