Another front passenger window won't roll up thread

Remove this ad
I just spent the last two hours searching through all of the old threads I could find, and I still am kind of lost.

I have a 98 Deville (regular kind).

The front passenger window rolls down just fine from either control. It will not roll up from either control. I don't even hear any sounds like it is trying to roll it up.

All of the other windows work exactly like they are supposed to.

I noticed the problem today after I left my mechanic's shop. I know it definitely worked yesterday. I had the mechanic replace a tire. He also removed my factory tape deck, but couldn't install my pioneer cd player because the Advance auto parts was out of the installation kits and wiring harnesses for my car. They told me I could get those from Best Buy in the morning.

Right now I have no radio installed. Could that be causing my window problem?

Re: Another front passenger window won't roll up thread

I don't think the radio will have anything to do with the window. I do know that the passenger side window switch must be operable for the driver's side switch to work the passenger side window.

Yesterday, my passenger side window went down and then a loud pop. The the window would not go up or down with either switch.

Did you window roll down and it stayed down? Could you pull it up with your hands? How can you tell if the window will go down with both switches?

Two possibilities: 1) the plastic slide broke and the window stays down. You should hear the motor run trying to raise the window.

2) A wire for the down side of the switches has broken, so there is no power getting to the up side of the motor. Check power at the switch for power to and from the switch. If you have current from the switch to the motor, the window lift motor is shot. If no current is present on the motor side of the switch, you have a bad switch.
I hope this information will help.

Had this same problem with my 98 deville, thought I was gonna have to repalce something. I poped out the swtich on the passenger and drivers side and check and rattled all the wires. That solved my problem.

You'll need a screwdriver and use some of that elbow grease but it will pop up, there is a metal clip holding down on one end and 2 plastic "teeth" holding the other.

Re: Another front passenger window won't roll up thread

On my 98 deville they just pop out. I took a flat screwdriver and put it under the plastic pc that is on the arm rest. The metal clip is towards the front of the car.

I got lucky last night, it was just the little up and down push button itself.
I pulled the one from the rear window (which we never use) and put it up front. Worked like a charm. now my wife has her window again.
