Fuel gauge problems - 2001 Deville

    Hey guys
So the fuel gauge sensor doesn't really work.
It shows that it's full but it's not and sometimes it will show that it's low on fuel when it's not at all. Please help!
Should I get the fuel guage replaced or is their a simpler DIY method I can do at home? It's a 2001 deville

The Gaige isn't the problem, it's the fuel level sending unit in the tank. There's an access panel in the trunk, so replacement isn't too bad.

Plenty of threads on this in Tech Tips. Replace the entire fuel pump module - the fuel pump is next anyway. Your car has an access hatch in the trunk floor, just forward of the spare tire well. A wiring connector, two quick connects, and a lock ring. Don't make sparks by banging on the lock ring.

How-to video in the Airtex pump pictures in www.rockauto.com. Airtex, AC Delco, UltraPower and DELPHI are all OEM assemblies. One or two may come with a new HD electrical connector that is spliced into the existing body harness.

Check the Tech Tips section. If there is one, that's where it should be.

Replace the entire pump module, not just the level sensor. You'll be glad you did when the fuel pump quits in October.

As posted in #3, this is almost a carbon copy of the Northstar cars with the access hatch in the trunk ....... watch the video

the fuel pump assy. with fuel gauge replacement is not that easy. The plastic cup that holds the assy. is bigger than the hole in the tank. I replaced the level -sensor with out taking out the assy. I think the plastic gets hard and will not flex enough to fit through hole in the tanks.
