From reading online I understand that the main cause of death of the 1989-1992 Deville/Fleetwood cars is overheating leading to catastrophic engine damage. My car is a fairly low mileage example showing very well and I hope to keep it for years, but I'm a little concerned with this potential problem, especially since the dashboard doesn't have a temperature gauge and I have no way of knowing whether the "engine overheat" dash light will be functional to warn me in time before disaster strikes.
Besides annual coolant system flush and examination of the radiator/fan, anything else needs done to minimize risks?
Has anyone fitted an aftermarket coolant temperature gauge?
