Hi all, my 1999 DeVille has begun turning on the traction control and ABS fault lamps together and they stay on until car turned off and re-started. HISTORY= car has 236,000 miles. At about 140K check engine light came on with code showing lock up torque converter fails to engage, and troubleshooting led me to think the solenoid was bad. I understood you can't service this part without dropping the whole cradle, and since I was still getting 22-23 mpg I decided to live with it. Changed fluid and filter and kept on driving it. At about 200K, as I would come up my gravel drive and hit a lumpy spot, the traction would engage, but the fault light for both traction and ABS would come on. I would park, and the next time I ran it, the lights would stay off until I again did something requiring traction to engage, at which point light would come on again. No big deal I thought. Sticky solenoid or such. Just recently, the problem has begun to appear when taking off from stoplight and going staight ahead if I take off a bit faster than normal. I can hear the traction engage and both lights come on and stay on until re-started. Today I came up the drive, traction engaged breifly, but the lights did not come on and traction dis-engaged normally.
I suspect a solenoid issue, but wonder what relay/solenoid would cause both lights to come on together? Any ideas most appreciated.
