    I don't trust Stant. On other cars I've owned they farked up the design, causing the unit to expand against the housing and bend BADLY. I wish I could find the photos I took.

    For now, I think I'm going to keep an eye on the gauge and leave it alone until it gets worse or more obvious.

    Yep ^^^ - Depending on ambient temps the emissions systems don't fully click in (go closed loop) until a coolant temp of between 140 and 160 degrees. That 160 corresponds to just about the tick mark at 11:15. (Post 3).

    Never had a problem with a Stant cooling system part in 60 years. You could try a Gates branded 'stat, and AC Delco will be either/or Stant or Gates depending on the current state of the supply contracts.

    Even though the 'stat is in the return hose the temperature cartridge (copper case with wax pellet) points TO the engine/water pump. These 'stats are acted upon by the block and heater circuit temperatures.

    How do you know it was the thermostat if you haven't changed it?
