00 DTS front right fender sticking out after tireshop lifted car?

Hey guys, this is my first post and i hope i can get some quick ansewers.
I went to have some tires put on my 2000 dts and when i got home i noticed my front right side
Fender between the front of the door and fender is almost like it is bowed out! Needless to say
I am pissed!! And when i went back to the shop to show them, they naturaly denide everything.
Im no expert but it looks like it just popped out when they lifted in the wrong place.
Can it be popped back in place if that is the case?

VERY common occurrence with Devilles, Sevilles, and Park Avenues.

Yes, it was put in the lift wrong, and the fender mounting flange is bent. Sometimes you can fix it with some pliers and a hammer, sometimes a body shop is required. And either way, the paint is probably cracked. Go back and talk to the manager, DO NOT let them try to fix it. Show them what happened, tell them you're taking it to a body shop for an estimate. If the manager doesn't cooperate, ask for the regional managers number. If he/she doesn't help, call your insurance company and let them deal with them.

Or, you could try to fix it yourself.

Thanks for the reply! As far as the fender and paint, its the same with no cracks.
But for me to try getting it back in place, how and where do i start ? It kinda seems
Like a easy fix? Thanks again

The damaged part (and where the paint would be cracked) is the mounting flange. It's under the car, and may or may not be hidden by the rocker panel molding (I'm not sure on a Deville).

........... each of these cars has a specific set of lift points - "hard pads" on the body, specific points on suspension parts.

In the Seville/Deville the "hard pads" are just inboard of the spot welded fender/body flange and the hoist lift arm pads need 2" to 3" vertical extensions to allow the hoist arm to clear the fender mounting flanges.

FWIW, I do my own tire exchanges and brake work - BUT on the occasional local Western Auto new tire change visit, the tech first looks at a computer database to see where the hoist pads go. They're good people.

MC is right. Been there. A shop did that to my daughters '02 SLS several years ago.

Re: 00 DTS front right fender sticking out after tireshop lifted car?

Its too bad i didnt notice it till after i left there (dump) i mean shop!
I went to a small tire shop so there isnt much as far as going the legal
Route. No corporate office to yell at. So it looks like im on my own for this.
But if it is something that could be a easy fix For me to try with limited
Tools and know how, i still want to try. I cant have my car looking like that
    Lol

Call your insurance company, it's your word against theirs. You have nothing to lose.

It's sad how often you see this. It's almost common. A mix of ignorance and apathy. It can be fixed, kind of. It won't be the same though. The pinch weld gets crushed.

Re: 00 DTS front right fender sticking out after tireshop lifted car?

As of yet, no one has really said how to fix the issue. I have the same problem on the drivers side, however I do have some tools and a bit of know-how. However I have never dealt with this issue first hand and would like some help on what to pull off, what needs to be replaced, what needs to be re-welded from some-one that has dealt with this problem so that I won't run into un-expected problems along the process...

The "fix" is a good body shop. Home-brew bent body metal repair is usually less than satisfactory.

    .......... as in Post #2.

You can take a couple of adjustable wrenches, adjust them to the thickness of the bent metal, and massage the pinch weld back into the vertical position. The fender will align itself as you do it. Then address the area so it doesn't rust.

I tried it and got her lined up perfectly. Had to put my thinking cap on a few times, but it now looks like nothing had ever happened.
