    AC Compressor Inop

Had a display message "Refrigerant Low" and the AC wouldn't work. The shop checked and instead of 2 lbs. there is only

1 lb. in the system. They charged it up and we didn't see the "Refrigerant Low" message but, the compressor clutch doesn't

engage. Push the Recirc button, turn the temp down to 60 deg and then press auto. The recirc light goes out it it switches

back to ECON. It won't stay in auto trying to cool nor does the compressor engage. That's with a full load of refrigerant.

Any ideas? I left the car there for them to diagnose. If I need any major parts I'll order them from Discount AC Parts online.

I've had good luck with them in the past. Any further suggestions?

What is the ambient temperature? A/C is not needed and won't engage if it's colder than 35F or so. Does it engage in defrost mode? Defrost overrides everything and engages the compressor.

How did shop charge the system if the compressor is not running check codes for the ac and clear them. I bet you a code current that says low Freon. Clear the codes and the climate control should stop switching to econ. If they put a lb in you have a leak that needs to be fixed otherwise you will be filling a bucket with a hole in it.

It's 65 deg. here now. I'll check on the codes. Thanks.

If the compressor will not engage and you have no DTC's, check the fuses.

    Re: AC Compressor Inop

It was the DTC's keeping the compressor off! They disconnected the battery for a few minutes after charging it and the codes reset! Blowing
nice and cold now. The other mechanic knew about it and had sorted it out when I called them. Thanks for all of the help! I was thinking, GREAT,
compressor time! Have a great day! I've had the car a few years and it's first recharge. If it keeps working, I'll just have the charge checked in
the spring to see how much it's going down and if it's worth tracking it down. Have a great weekend!
