98 Deville - Cruise Control just stopped working!

The cruise control on my 1998 Deville just stopped working last night. No indicators as to a failure.

    1. All lights/turn signals/hazards work
    2. NO indictor in the dash that the cruise is engaged
    3. No fault codes
    3. Speedometer works properly

First thing I checked was the fuse. It is good. The cruise module (on strut tower) connector is plugged in and has a good connection. The power wire (grey wire) at the connector has power with switch on and no power with switch off (I assume the switch is good) I also verified ground.

Any clue and pointers? Kinda at a loss here

Check the brake pedal switch at the top of the brake pedal mechanism. That switch will "lock out" CruiseControl if it's out of adjustment. The switch snaps into its mount and is self-adjusting - dismount it, check the electrical connector for tightness/cleanliness, install it and go for a drive.

IF the switch is properly adjusted it will also drop out TCC above 43 mph if you lightly touch the brake pedal with your left foot while maintaining highway speed/load with your right. Touch the brake pedal and engine rpm should increase by ~300 rpm. TCC = Torque Converter Clutch, an emissions/gas saver control that removes most of the last 300 rpm of slip in the torque converter at highway speeds/loads. ............... anyway, it's also dependent on that brake pedal switch, same as CC.

Sorry I forgot to say that. I tried the foot on the pedal and pull up trick to no luck. I do not even get the "Engaged" notification on the dash cluster. But I will take a closer look at that switch.

I just reread what you said...and what I did. Lightly push down not pull up. I will redo test after work.

    ***UPDATE***

Replaced the switch (it was only $5.00) but that did not resolve anything. Going to have to drop the covers under dash and check the connection for the switch in the column. I also found two 2 amp fuses under by the brake light switch anyone have any idea what they are for?

Those fuses are for the steering wheel controls.
Did you check for any codes?

I don't remember, but is the cruise control on the 98's controlled by vacuum lines? I really can't remember but who knows.

Yes and no. Yes I checked and no their were no codes. The cruise is controlled with an electronic module not vacuum operated. As far as I can tell it is functional. It acts like something come unplugged. I am at a loss might just take it to GM and let them look at it. Rodnok01 thanks for the info!

Having no codes is weird. But then again, you never know. I would suggest you do what Sub said.

I did and replaced it for good measure, no change. Its just like the fuse was pulled, but all fuses are good unless I am missing one or something somewhere.

IIRC there are two switches on the brake pedal, one for brake lights and other is ABS/TCC switch.
Do your brake lights work and do yo have any ABS codes as I think if ABS is broken it disables the cruise also.

    ****Update****

After some pin testing to determine voltages and verifying ground I determined the cruise control module/amplifier had failed. Replaced it and all is working fine now.
