heater control valve on 93 Deville

    HI Everyone,
To celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary I got my wife a 92 Cadi. Deville. It is in great shape but..... all I get out of the heater is warm air. Not good in Minnesota. I trouble shot it and found that the heater control valve is bad. Can anyone tell me where I can find detailed instructions on how to replace it. I have 4 kids in college and on a cops salary I have to do the work myself. It s 4.9 liter.

Thanks this is a great group.

Re: heater control vale on 93 Deville

I have a 90 deville and a 93 deville, and both have heating problems, I looked for a heater control valve on my 90 because all I was getting was warm air, but I couldnt find the vavle, they are usually in one of the hoses going to the heater core right? Because the heater control valve is the most logical solution to this problem but if it doesnt have one I guess I can't replace it. Have you actually located the valve on your 92'?

    congratulations -
I believe you have resurrected the oldest thread ever -

    over 10 years old -

    -------------------

    to answer your question -
there actually is no heater control valve in the 90's Deville -

there is a special restrictor built into the plastic heater hose connector -

    ACDELCO Part # 155390 -

but the device that regulates the temperature inside the car -
is the blend door actuator -
it controls a door that opens - or blocks airflow -
    through the heater core -

The blend door actuator works but still getting outside air, no heat. I thought maybe it was the heater control valve!

it isn't a heater control valve - like the old cars -
that actually varied the amount of hot water flowing through the heater core -

the fixed restrictor in the pic
simply slows down the constant flow of hot water through the heater core -

    try this -

with the engine fully warmed up -
put the temp to 90* - and put the fan on high speed -

now feel the temperature of both heater hoses at the firewall -

BOTH hoses should be hot -
the outlet hose might be slightly cooler than the inlet hose -

if you don't get these results - your heater core could be blocked -

another possibility might be the recirculate door not closing -
that one allows outside air into the cabin -

Technically it is called a "heater Control Valve".

technically - you are correct -
but that part is not responsible for changing the heat inside the car -

Correct and I always thought that was a rather inappropriate name, but GM seems to have a knack for that.
