I'm new to the forum and appreciate all the helpful info.
Anyway, I've had my 2004 base Deville for almost 3 weeks now. Bought it with 25,500 miles. Still under the orig factory warranty for another 7 months.
The "Service Engine Soon" came on day2. The Dealer replaced the air pump.
Also, the fan (inside the dash) makes a slite sqeaking sound when on high. It does quiet down after the car warms up. I discovered there's a known issue with the sensor on this fan. I'll take care of this before the warranty expires.
I love the ride and performance, but I am a little scared by all the potential problems. I will definitely purchase the extended warranty.

- Crank shaft position sensors (60K)
- AC issues since bought in 2004 (Recently found leak in hose from compressor to condenser)
- Rear AC doesn't work very well
- Driver's seat heat doesn't work
- Changing out the antifreeze tomorrow
- Changing out the water pump tomorrow
- Needs brake pads again, will be changing them out this weekend
- Bent a rim on a pothole and replaced all four with nearly new off e-bay(Others for sale in the classifieds on this site)
- Noticed LEDs going out on the trunk brake light
- Not the best gas mileage
She is a very nice ride, though. Would do it again. |

Right Rear Window Motor = $400
Front Wheel Hub Bearings = $900
Brakes = $500
Radiator = $600
Coolant level sensor is bad but requires surge tank replacement to repair.
Oh well, comes with the territory I guess. |

Just picked it up last month. 104 KMS on it (60000 miles)Pearl white/slate int, chromies. Front heated seats dont work...YET!... I've started goin' through the filters, Cabin filter:fifty dollars Cdn. Next, fuel, air, oil... and WOT are tooo much fun...alll in the interest of keepin the motor healthy, of course. My first Caddy, but I've always loved the DTS/DHS since they came out in 2000. It's taking me a long time to settle into all the "stuff" this car has going for it, and to figure out what the hell all these buttons on the Bose stereo are for. |

02 Base Deville - bought in Oct 04 off lease, with 82K miles then.
Has 156K now.
Just put new pads up front, Monro ceramics. Only paid for labor.
Replaced LR/Pass window mechanism last year, about $500 at the dealer.
Replaced RF wheel bearing about 16 months ago, $90 for the part.
That's pretty much it. Gas and oil. 22MPG on regular. Burns about a quart every 1200-1500 miles. Use Walmart Super-Tech 5w-30.

It's a small, short [about a foot long] wire with a male plug one each end.
I ran into the same problem with the 01 Deville I had. Brake light on the trunk, LP light and off-and on, the fuel door didn't work.
Electrical gremlins are the worst. |

With my 03 DeVille I must be lucky...............1st dealer visit in 04 was for a PCM reflash for a emission update, 2nd visit for a coolant loss problem at 45k miles which turned out to be a water pump seal. All done under warranty!
My last 2 Caddies 90 and 96 went to `100k plus miles with nothing more
than oil changes, 2 brake jobs, tires, transmission service and a spark
plug change..................geo |

Originally Posted by Clifton Gardner last problem was at 115000 has118000 now | Okay, let's consider this a little differently. You're talking about a 5 year - maybe closer to 6 year - old car that's taken you [or someone] 118000 miles. If you didn't buy the car new, you very likely have no idea how it was maintained before you got it.
2002 deville
1. rotors turned
Basic maintainence, roughly every 30000 or so for a car this heavy.
2. replaced rotors
Basic maintenence at roughly 100000 miles.
3. crank position sensors
Should have been done under warranty.
4. vibration mid 60 mph
Have the tires spin balanced on the car. Check wheel bearings. All, normal maintenance for any car.
5. tcc and torque converter
Explain?
6. water pump gasket
Normal. Under a $100 fix.
7. back left window will not roll down
Not normal on most cars - normal for Devilles. Cadillace uses cheap crap plastic window regulators. Being locked in the up position is fine - when locked in the down position, you have to replace the regulator or you can't secure your car. THIS is a legitimate bitch.
8. stering intermediate shaft making bumping sound
118000 miles. Possible worn steering component. Probably normal
9. right side motor that operates ac and heating
118000 miles. Normal maintenence - parts do wear out.
10. head gasket
Is this a blown head gasket? Who paid for the repair? This is NOT normal maintenence and is a problem with older N* engines.
11. rear ac gets code
Not enough information.
You're still driving a premium car. You're getting good mileage [important these days.]. You've really gotten good service from it. You do have a couple out of the normal maintenence range but overall, you've still got a great car. You shouldn't be so disillusioned with it. Consider the cost of a replacement with even the lowest priced KIA P.O.S. and what it costs to keep a good car and you'll maybe get the picture a little better.
All that is JMHO.
Have a great day. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
