I have a Black 2002 DTS with 79,000 miles which I've owned for the last year and a half. I love it. The only problem I've had is the apparently inevitable stalling problem (crankshaft sensors) which I had replaced, also a motor mount was broken, which struck me as bizarre.
The "Service stability sys" shows up periodically on my DIC. I had it checked out, they replaced a sensor on the RF wheel, but it still comes on occasionally. So, I ignore it.
I change the oil & filter every 3000 miles; it is using a quart every 2000 miles, so I never actually add any between changes. |

I guess they don't like the WOT's to much. Quote:

Fuel pump is a pretty routine item at this mileage. Some last a lot longer - some a lot shorter - time. Generally speaking, the hum starts as a warning that she's going out. Hum coming from the rear of the car - you can start it and walk to the trunk and you'll hear it. Pump is in the tank. Not sure about the 2000 but my 01 and 04 have an access door under the spare.
Not cheap at 2-300 dollars but better than getting stranded.
Don't ask me how I know. |

Only have had it 2 weeks now, tire pressure warning comes on from time to time, dealer says happens quite often in these 20* to -10* days. Also, the check coolant warning came on 2 days ago, dealer says they went completely through this car for me, but I'll check to make sure. Other than that, this car is really nice! |

Damn I just sold my 1997 SLS and was going to buy a 2001+ DTS or DHS in the next few weeks. After reading this post I'm not too sure about the decision. Looks like these things are plagued with expensive problems. |

Looks like these things are plagued with expensive problems. | I've had my 2004 DTS for 9 days now and love it, love it, love it! I've even had the "Svc Stability Sys" message appear twice now, but I don't care. It still has the balance of the 4yr/50K mile factory warranty so it'll be covered. I paid the extra money to certify the warranty through the dealership, extending it an add'l 2yrs to 6yrs or 100K miles, bumper-to-bumper. I think that would be the way to go when, if you purchase one. I don't think there are many cars other than maybe a Toyota that is completely trouble free. I've owned BMW, Chevrolet, Nissan, and Ford vehicles none of which have been 100% perfect.
Don't give up!
Cheers ~
Rick

I agree with ibmer, and I also have 2 years left on warranty, and will be buying the factory extended after that. Don't let the small stuff worry you! And Toyota has lots of problems too, you just never heard about them much, on accout of their private recalls, etc.( I read this on a Toyota board.) |

expect this to be $$$$ a rear main seal may be able to be done with only removing the tranny, but the half case involves r&i the engine & dis-reassy...
good luck with that.... I have a slight leak too.... drives me nuts.... I guess at some point I'll pull the engine & reseal everything... most caddy mechanics will tell you this is almost considered a maintanance item, & every n* will need this eventually... it's either you but them new & get out of it before this happens, or you buy them used & deal with this... |

Replaced all 4 window actuators plus drivers side a second time.
Replaced both crank sensors 45k
Replaced water pump gasket 35k
Replaced both front struts 35k and 50k
A/C has problem with passenger side being cooler then drivers side.
Steering wheel is making a clunking sound when adjusting
Had tire air pressure sensors replaced once, am having same problem again about servicing it.
I should investigate motor mounts.
I called Cadillac and complained on the second go round with my window actuators, they sent me a $250 maintenance letter. So call and complain, even if you have extended warranty. They need to be made aware of the shoddy products. I would imagine they would be using different motors which do not have the same problems. Apparently not.
I think if you live in an area that is hot and dry like I do. (AZ) the plastic gears they use in the actuators dry out and fall apart quicker.
My son has a 2001 DTS with pretty much the same problem. He does not have extended warranty.
For the cost of a Cadillac, you shouldn't have to have an extended warranty nor have these kind of problems. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
