Re: 2000-2005 Deville/DTS/DHS Check In !

I have a 2002 DTS. 90,000 miles. LOVE the car!!!
Had to replace water pump at 40000 miles.
Current issues that I haven't resolved are AC and SERVICE STABILITY SYSTEM MESSAGE.

Maybe some one can help.
AC goes on and off intermittently. Service AC message comes on for a few seconds then goes off. Prior to that AC would quit cooling and I discovered if I would gun the engine it would come back on.
Have had it to the dealer a couple of times and they replaced the coolant but it is still doing it.

Stability message: Anybody know what the service is??

Pull the codes and see what it is (there's instructions in the FAQ I believe). The most common problem is the steering wheel position sensor, but it really could be just about anything. The code will tell you exactly what it is.

Re: 2000-2005 Deville/DTS/DHS Check In !

Thanks for the help, Jim. I found the codes. One code, that is the stabilty system problem I think, is "Steering sensor rate mafunction" . I am guessing that the problem may be in the steering wheel what from what I have read in other posts.

Yes, that's the steering wheel position sensor gone bad. It happens a lot. The position of the steering wheel and the rate and direction of movement is one of the inputs the Stabilitrak system uses to determine whether you've gotten yourself in trouble.

Re: 2000-2005 Deville/DTS/DHS Check In !

I have a 2001 DTS purchased with 55k miles. I've had the car about a year with no major problems. The only thing that needs fixing is the drivers heated seat is not functioning. The seat switches light up but no heat either from the bottom or the back and the fuse is good. How can all the elements go bad at the same time? Now, I'm wondering if it's just the relay that is bad. Would anybody have a part number for the relay? If I have to replace all the elements, how hard is it to do? Any info and photos would be most appreciated.

Re: 2000-2005 Deville/DTS/DHS Check In !

I own a 2000 Black DTS with 76000 and I have not had a single problem. The leather is a little worn out on the driver seat. Other than that great car so far. I do have one question and I don't want to sound ignorant, but what is a carbon run ? Also a quart of one used between every oil chage is a normal thing? I have owned a Z-71 for the last ten years and they never used oil ?

Thanks..

Re: 2000-2005 Deville/DTS/DHS Check In !

i posted earlier in this thread but here's an update. got the "service stability system" warning and took it in. up till now the car has been problem-free except for the vibration at 65-75mph. the guy gave me a history of the car and the car already has had the steering speed sensor changed previously, as well as: power steering, manifold pressure sensor, waterpump, front strut bearing, upper radiator hose, both tie rod ends, crank sensor, and the instrument cluster. i think i'm going to get rid of this car while there is over a year on the warranty

Re: 2000-2005 Deville/DTS/DHS Check In !

2000 deville dhs. ive only had one problem, the check engine light would come on about every 3k miles. it was a tranny history code, but i didnt get any more specifics than that. all i know is if it wasnt under warranty, id have to pay 1996 dollars for the repair...

other than that, ive had no problems. i think the rotors need to be resurfaced, but thats just wear and tear.

oh, and about the oil thing, cwsmith...my car has to have the oil changed every 3k miles no matter what. they mislabeled it once and it wasnt due for 4500 miles. im a lazy guy so i figured id just take it in after 4500 miles. well, after about 4100 miles, my check engine light comes on. it was down to almost nothing. so some of these can burn a lot of oil!

Re: 2000-2005 Deville/DTS/DHS Check In !

I had that problem with my 97 deville - it was a fuel sending unit. Not too expensive. If I remember it was about 50-60 bucks
