***hello, did you get a reply to your question. My wife and I have a 1999 STS (76,000 miles) with the same problem. Thanks.

Get good mileage, to my surprise 18 city, 27 hiway. Because my driving has been mostly highway, my oil change info says only 50%. So I guess depending on driving type, mileage between changes varies quite a bit. My only beef is with the seat backs. I just can't get comfortable with them. My back is continually irritated with these seat backs. In my wifes VW I have no problem. So I'm trying some terry cloth towels on the seat back and that seems to be helping some.
Any suggestions really appreciated. |

Dub | It's a very simple mechanism. Just some rods and nylon bushings. The child lock knob may have become disconnected from the latch while it was engaged or the rod from the handle to the latch may have come loose. It's a pain in the butt to take apart to investigate, though.

Right Passenger visor clip defective. Replaced and the visor STILL pops out. Right front tire sensors replaced. Other than that looks as good as it did when I bought it. However, I still feel the interior is cheap for a caddy. |

| | Cadillac Owners Member | | | | | Re: 2000-2005 Deville/DTS/DHS Check In ! Thanks for asking this, as I am getting ready to buy another Cadi, an 01 DHS (30K) from a family member who bought it new and is anticipating buying an 06 Deville. The 01 car's history is well documented. The car had the ignition switch replaced along with the waterpump gasket. Car uses a quart of oil to about 3k. There has been some other minor warranty work done as well (cosmetic). There was a noise in the steering column, especially when the car was backing up. Work was done to the column but not sure what.
I am a bit anxious about buying the 01 due to some of the problems cited on these forums (potential TCC and tire vibration, etc.) but more so because of the potential of having to go to a local upstate NY Cadi dealer for service since other mechanics may not have the manuals/codes/software etc. Besides being expensive, my experience has been that many Cadi service managers lack knowledge and tend to be arrogant.
If anyone has some buyer's advice regarding the 01 Deville I would be grateful. |

Lets see , a few little headaches , sunroof wind visor,( that little piece of black plastic that pops up when you slide your sunroof open) broke , dont know how but it did, which made it a real pain to close the SR. replaced for $100. (100 for a piece of plastic yup). also my gas gague goes crazy , its acurate from a full tank to about a half then jumps back n forth sparaticly from full to E. I go off of the gal used digital readout. Passenger "message" seat doesnt seem to work althought the other controls work ie. fwd back etc. actually my biggest pet pieve is the passenger main air vent closes by its self , when turned up more than half way , all the time, and the drivers side vents blow out warmer air than the passenger side. WHATS UP WITH THAT, please let me know if you guys experienced any of these and/or how to fix and $$ thanks

Hub bearing.
Both tie rod ends.
Battery.
Both crank sensors.
Noisy steering intermediate shaft.
2 failed window regulators.
Check engine light. Cracked intake 'boot.'
1 Spark plug blew out.
Low freon. Tip! On the dual AC system. If the drivers side seems a little warmer then the right side. Its low on freon. No codes will set. Guage readings will appear normal. Found this on the hard way. http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/...9_fake_008.jpg

Engine mount.
For DevilleIcon......here is how I fixed my slighty warmer drivers side vent temperture. This was posted on another site. Hmmm....over the last week or so the drivers side air was getting warm. Passenger side seemed plenty cold. (dual air system)
No codes. No funny sounds.
Study the service manual. Mix door or actuator going bad?
Started taking the dash apart today to check sensors/doors etc.
Study service manual more......
Everything looks ok. Freon pressure looks ok. Perfect pressure for outside temp.
Study service manual again.......
Then find this little obsure message in the service manual....
"Does the discharge air temperature between the right and left center I/P outlets differ by 2-3 degrees?"
Well yeah....more like 5-10 degrees different but.....says go to step 7....
"The A/C system is under charged but not enough to show a difference in low or high side pressures."
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr........
Sure enough. 1 can 134a fixed the car. 6 hours wasted taking the IP apart.

Had significant vibration problem, replace tie rod and motor mount that did not correct the problem. Invested another $800+ for new Michelins...no fix. Finally a dealer re-torqued 4 bolts that connect transmission to frame. Problem solved. Also burns a quart of oil every 2000-2500 miles. No leaks but would like to know if this is normal. |
