    2001 Deville - blown woofer

Is there an aftermarket replacement that is a better choice than OEM?

    Anyone who has swapped one?

    thanks

Re: 2001 deville sub woof - blown

Depending on the grade of sound system install, replacing the woofer (it's NOT a subwoofer) is either a simple swap or a dedicated remake of the whole system. Surf through Audio, Video, Security for insight. If the system is a Bose, then that's what gets replaced - oddball hookup and impedance.

If you're looking for more "woof !" as opposed to (or to replace) a blown OEM speaker, then there are hoops to jump through.

The OEM head unit is part of the car's TheftLock and serial data bus systems. It's programmed with THAT car's VIN.

Re: 2001 Deville - blown woofer

Of all vehicles to add an amp and subwoofer, this is probably the easiest. The battery is close, the fuse box is close for remote turn on, and you have signal (going to old woofer). The only hiccup I"ve read about is keeping resistance on your signal wires, otherwise the stock amp shuts off the signal. You will also need either an amp that takes high power input, or converters to go from high power to RCAs.
