Check Engine Soon Warning on my 2005 DeVille

I recently bought my wife a new to her 2005 DeVille with 24,600 miles on the clock. She wanted the same model she had with 111,000 miles.

Anyway it is basically still a nice car so I have been driving it. It now has 121,000 miles.

Yesterday the "Check Engine Soon" light came on. The car runs fine and is getting between 18 & 19 mpg on regular gas. I don't think it is anything serious but need to know for sure.

I could not pull up the codes and would like the sequence to use.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in Advance

    Terry

I fixed em damn ground cable from right side was loose actually they are not blinding no one as there in the low beam slot behind the chrome disperse cap and leveled u can stand right in front of them and they wont blind u i tested them (the ones that blind are idiots who put them in headlights or fog lights with no disperse cap or old non clear frosted headlamps that scatter bad) plus there 4300K factory color no blue crap I had all kinds of halogens the good ones (Silverstars, PIAA) they don't last long because they burn to hot to make them brighter and whiter and at almost 30-50 a set it aint worth it got my kit from the retrofit source nice quality not ebay crap, i might be doing a projector retrofit soon as they also have the stuff for that right now im still getting her paint together working on the 3 step process and touch ups

PS: regarding my post on that weird start up stall i cleaned the TB was filty in only a year and i got the fuel pressure check my guy says its fine so i don't know why she did that but im sure the TB cleaner will help with her fast idol and pulling with out applying no gas, imagine that a caddy that drives itself

Re: Check Engine Soon Warning on my 2005 DeVille

    OK Guys,

With the holiday interference I finally got out and ran the codes on my 2005 DeVille. Thanks to basscat.

This was my 1st time and even with a warning to be ready I wasn't.

Anyway here is what came up.

    IRC - U1016 History
    IPC - U1000 Current
PCM- 4022 Current "Power Train Module"

The last one appears to be the culprit.
I hope I got the number right because I accidentally erased it before I had a chance to read it again.

Maybe I will be lucky and it won't come back. HaHa!! Fat chance of that.

    Thanks

    Terry

Re: Check Engine Soon Warning on my 2005 DeVille

I don't really know of a P4022 code, but it might be a P0422 ("Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 1") code (which should turn on the MIL as it's an emissions related code.) The U1016 is probably not an issue, but the current U1000 might be - see http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...ipc-u1000.html - has some details on the implications of that code.

P0422 (if that is it) will cause an inspection failure in an emissions controlled area, and might have backpressure implications from a damaged catalytic converter - if it is damaged in such a way as to restrict flow. More likely the catalytic converter is just old and the catalyst is not working as well as it is designed to - no MPG implications from that, just know that you're probably sending a bit more unburned fuel out that back than you should be (the other possibility is that the oxygen sensor is damaged, not the catalyst.) The only hope of "cleaning" a catalytic converter is to get it nice and roasty, and hope the contaiminants burn off.

    naif is correct -

no 4XXX codes - "U" codes come and go quite often -

take the car out for an extensive "test-beat" -
    to "clear it's throat" - do a few WOT's -
    Wide-Open-Throttle -

Re: Check Engine Soon Warning on my 2005 DeVille

Interesting on the PCM 4022 code since I recently passes CA smog (about 3 months ago) with flying colors.

I will go out and drive the hell out of it and hope the code does not come back.

I thought the U1000 code was related to just the radio. I will have to wait and see if returns also.

Since I cleared the codes out I will have to wait and see what returns.
If either of them return to quote Arnold "I'll be back"

    Thanks

I agree, P0422 sounds like a logical explanation.
