Access the OBD by pressing the Off and Warmer buttons together.
While is is scanning through the modules, you can press the Fan speed down button.
Then press the Fan speed down button until IPC? displays on the dash.
Press the fan speed button up for YES
Press the fan speed down button until IS07 is displayed.
Press the Warmer button to increase the number to 48.
Hold the ECON and Front Defrost buttons together for 2 seconds to save the new number.
Press AUTO to exit the OBD
Since it has worked ok for several of the members Devilles, I would have to say there are no adverse effects of doing this to your Deville or Deville Concours. |

I really started something here!
Stoneage Caddy-
FYI, the temp display will follow whether you have the cluster set for english or metric (so it will display both F and C degrees, depending on the display mode). This should make our Canadian couterparts happy, eh?
Also, regarding the steering wheel controls, I am still looking at doing this, but it has been on the back burner due to other more pressing concerns. If I do this you'll be the first to know.
And a note to everyone else following this thread-
I will probably just go ahead and post the instructions here shortly since several people want them and all the seperate emails might get a bit tedious. Besides, then it will be on record here for anyone else to see in the future - although I still have concerns about someone messing up their car, it seems that since several people have done it successfully already, maybe I'm overly worried for no good reason.
For anyone with a 96, I can't say for certain that it's going to be the same setup, 1996 went to OBDII from OBDI, and had the class II network so the IPC may have been changed internally from the 94/95 version.
It would be great if someone here who had a 96 FSM could check and see if the option override programming works the same, and even better if someone with a 1996 is adventurous enough to try it and confirm that it will work. I would do it myself, but I don't have a 96 or the manual to go with it, I only have a 95.
Keep your eyes open, the full procedure will be posted here probably today as soon as I have the time to write it up and make EXTRA sure that I don't have any mistakes in it and cause people to do it wrong.
I wouldn't want any of this: on account of my messing up the instructions.

I see I was beaten to the punch on posting the instructions, but I type this all up so I'm gonna post it anyway. Enjoy - KD
At long last here it is, the step-by-step procedure for “hacking” your 94/95 Deville digital intrument cluster to show Engine RPM’s, battery voltage and coolant temperature in addition to all the other items it already shown in the Driver Information Center.
I do ask the following if you attempt this – please, please print this out and read it thoroughly before you proceed. This will work with no problems if done correctly, if not done correctly, you may encounter serious malfunctions, or you may lock-up the cluster making the car inoperable. You have been warned…now onto the good part:
1. Put ignition in run position (you don’t need to start the car, but it shouldn’t matter if the engine is running) so that the cluster comes online.
2. Press the “OFF” and “WARMER” (red) button together and hold for a few seconds. This will put you in diagnostics mode.
Notes:
A. If you are not familiar with on-board diagnostics, the entire digital display will light up for a couple of seconds for test purposes, don’t be alarmed by this it is normal.
B. After the display test finishes, one of two things will happen. If you have any current or history codes stored, they will be displayed in sequence. You can either ignore these – although they indicate problems that probably need your attention – or you can clear them. The procedure to clear codes will not be discussed here as it is beyond the scope of what we’re going to be doing here. In any case, if you have any codes, write them down for reference.
3. After any codes have displayed (or if there aren’t any codes) you will see the prompt “PCM?” This is a query asking you if you want to access the PCM diagnostics. We don’t need to do this, we need to go into IPC. To do this press the fan speed down button once. You will now see “IPC?” on the display. This is where you want to go.
4. Press the fan speed up button, you will now see “IPC DATA?”. Press the fan speed down button twice more until you see “IPC OVERRIDE?” on the display.
5. Press the fan speed up button and you will now see “IS00” on the DIC display. Press the fan speed up button once more and you will see “nnn IS07” where “nnn” is a 3 digit integer number. Make absolutely sure you are on “nnn IS07” before you change anything, as there are other overrides besides this one that are critical to the proper operation of the car, and will cause all manner of trouble if they are changed.
Notes:
A. If you have a Deville with Soft-Ray or EZ-Cool glass installed (the normal US configuration) then the number displayed for “nnn” will be “016”. If you do not have either EZ-cool or Soft-ray glass then the value displayed should be “000” Consult the table below:
Value | Funciton
0 Deville/Concours
16 EZ-Cool or Soft-ray Glass
32 Seville/Eldorado
There are other options in this table (listed in the factory service manual) but I have omitted them because they don’t pertain to what we’re doing here and to avoid confusing the issue any further.
Now, you just have to take your existing number which should be either “000” or “016” as stated above and add 32 to it.
If you have something other than “000” or “016” you may not want to change anything until you’ve posted it on the forum and we can figure out what’s going on, as it would be a non-standard configuration.
6. To change the displayed value, use the red (warmer) button to increment the number upward. You will want the number to be “048” if you started with a value of “016” and if you started with “000” in the display then the number should be changed to “032”. If you go over the correct number, used the blue (cooler) button to decrement the number until it is correct.
7. Once you have the correct number (for US Devilles this should be “048”) you can save the new number. Before you save, PLEASE make sure you have the right number and override. You should see “048 IS07” on the DIC if you started out with “016 IS07” before you made any changes. If you don’t see “048 IS07”, especially if the “ISnn” is not the “IS07” then you changed the wrong value, and should back out using the “AUTO” button and start over.
Special note: If you key in the wrong number here and save it you will likely damage the cluster as these values are stored to an EEPROM in the cluster and if an incorrect number is stored, it will cause an irrecoverable error that will require replacement of the cluster. Once this happens, you cannot enter diagnostics again and correct the number, so be very careful.
8. Once you’re sure you have the right number, you can save the value by pressing the “ECON” and “FRONT DEFROST” (windshield shaped icon with “squiggly” arrows) buttons together for a few seconds. When the display changes to “--- IS07” for a second and then back to “048 IS07” that means that the value was saved.
9. Now you can exit diagnostics and see the fruits of your labor. Press the “AUTO” button, this will leave diagnostics mode and return the cluster to normal operation. Now press the “INFORMATION” button to cycle through all the different displays – if everything went well, you should now be able to see Engine RPM’s, Coolant Temperature, and Battery Voltage on the DIC besides all the things it could show before.
10. Enjoy your bitchin’ new displays (this is the most important step!)
I know this was long, but I wanted to be thorough and leave minimal chance for misunderstanding or mess-ups. I hope anyone who does this be as please with it as I have been.
Peace out,
Kevin |

did it show a number next to IP S07? if so what was the number. It's possible that they just changed the way the parameter number reads. I curious to know, as if that's all that's different it may still work. Anyone here have a 96 FSM that can shed some light?

off the top of my head, you have -
P052, keep alive memory reset. This isn't a big deal, just means the battery was disconnected sometime recently. This clears the KAM in the cluster. No need to worry about this one really. It can be cleared manually, but will eventually "fall off" the listed codes after a certain number of ignition cycles - unless you disconnect the battery again, then the ignition cycle counter resets.
I039 - Speed sensitive suspension error. This occurs on virtually every 1995 Deville (non-northstar) in existance, it happened to me about a year ago. It indicates a problem with the speed sensitive suspension system, for the exact problem there is a procedure to get a code to "blink out" from an indicator on the SSS module in the trunk.
This procedure is too complicated for me to recite from memory but I believe it has been posted in the suspension and steering systems forum in the past. Do a search, you should find it without too much trouble.
In conjunciton with this error, you will usually get a message "SERVICE RIDE CONTROL" on your DIC display and it will not go away (kind of like a psycho ex-girfriend ) unless you install a bypass relay in the trunk to disable the suspension control module from sending the error to the instrument cluster.
As to the other codes, I don't recognize these from memory and do not have my service manual with me right now. Someone else will probably post these, or you can look them up in the "sticky" on OBDI trouble codes elsewhere on the forum.
BTW, I'm glad you found the DIC dispaly fix to be so useful. I am surprised at how many people have reacted to this, I thought I was the only one who worried about this kind of stuff!
Take care!

| | Cadillac Owners Member | | | | | Re: Shazaam! 1995 Deville DIC instant "upgrade" I looked everything up and.....
P041 - No cam reference signal from ignition control module
R061 and R062 - SIR Indicator circuit failure.
What's that all about? |

if the code and the message or either still show up after installing the bypass relay let me know , becuase on some cars there is a additional step involing a very similar proceedure to what kdirk has described here ...
normally the relay kit works but for some of us we need to go father and modify a option setting in the ipc to remove the system from the cars programming ....all because of another failure in the system | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
