Instrument cluster swap for a 2004 Deville

    Hello!

Is it possible to replace a digital instrument cluster in a 2004 Deville with a used analogue instrument cluster out of a DHS?
It looks a lot better, but is it technically possible? Just disconnect the old one and plug in the new one?

    Instead of this

I forgot to ask: will the mileage stay the correct value?

Not sure - but the replacement must be programmed by a GM service shop - using the original mileage and the car's VIN - it's not a direct swap at all -

............ see later posts for different info ..............2004 must have changed.

It is plug n play. Logan did it several years ago.

Good to know - Post 10 explains the glitch.

    ---------------------------
actually - the analog cluster was used on 2000 to 2005 Deville DHS and DTS models -
along with 1998 to 2004 Seville SLS and STS models -

there are a few problems with swapping clusters -

the mileage IS stored within the cluster -
so - what ever mileage is on the replacement cluster -
that is what the mileage will display -

the mileage CAN NOT be changed by the dealer - or a TECH2 scanner -
it must be sent to a licensed specialty speedo shop to be changed -

one solution is to find a cluster with similar mileage -
MOST clusters available on ebay list the current mileage -
    -----------------

another problem is that some of the features of the donor car
include special warning messages that appear on the DIC -

    for example -
if the donor car came with TPMS - Tire Pressure Monitor System -
and your car does not have it - you will constantly get the warning -
"SERVICE TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM" every time you start the engine -
and it must be turned off/cleared manually - each and every time - by hitting the INFO button -

likewise - if the cluster comes from a DTS or STS with F45 "active suspension -
you will constantly get ABS and suspension codes - that can't be cleared -
though neither the ABS nor the Traction Control fault lights will be illuminated -

some have said these "options" can be removed from the cluster by using a TECH2 -
but the "service advisers" at the dealers insist it can't be done -

I have not actually talked with a tech who knows how to use a TECH2 -
so I don't know if it's possible or not -

it is also possible that some fault codes will NOT be displayed -
because some features you DO have - are not registered within the cluster -

so - YES - an analog cluster IS PLUG-N-PLAY - it WILL work - for the most part -
HOWEVER - there are some problems -

A lot of ebay cluster resellers will do the programming for you. You give them an electronic statement declaring the correct mileage and they charge $50-$100 extra to set the odometer.

I bought a used cluster for my 01 F150 and paid $75 to have the digital odometer configured to match the old one. Worked fine, but of course that's an entirely different vehicle.

Options can be added/removed with a tech 2 f4om the cluster. I have been through most of the modules on my car to update the firmware and add features. I also programed my name in to the DIC instead Driver 1.
